If I use correct grammar and spelling in an on-line game, am I a "retard"? |

Not at all! Erudition, even in gaming, is extremely important. |

I prefer proper grammar and spelling. Leet speek is amusing, and fun to use from time to time, but it is not substitute for good English. Having good grammar, good spelling, and a good vocabulary is a sign of intelligence as well as being fairly uncommon in today's American society. I love when gamers use complete sentances. It makes it much more descriptive. *Kiyomi smiled at him with a dazed look on her faced* rather than *dazed smile*.
The only time I use chat abbreviation is when my wrist is hurting (so that I have to type a little less), when I am in an extreme hurry, or when I have something very long to write and only have a small space to write it in. |

In short: It's their problem, and if a child thinks your uncool due to the fact that you don't use slang, then they're immature. I think perhaps they were upset because you weren't conforming to the way they talk, which means you aren't confirming that they are cool. So like I said, it's their problem.

My guess? They wouldn't know proper grammar if it bit them on the ass. We seem to have this anti-intellect vibe that runs through America. It frightens me really |

No kidding, Reverend. I cannot stand it! For example, "I've got something." Ugh! Personal pet peeve! It is "I HAVE something." "Got" means you previously attained something, not that you currently have it. I do not like contractions, either, though I use them too much. I try not to, but they are so common that it is unavoidable. I feel they are just another way to be lazy. |

Next time someone says that, you should ask them to not use a conjuction and say it again, cuz "I have got something." Sounds alot more retarded, hehe.

Got it. (Is that a proper usage?)
Rev, that anti-intellect vibe you're talking about: I see it as well, but I'm not sure where it comes from. Is it a subset of the political correctness insanity or does it originate from somewhere else? |

"I have got something" sounds stupid because it is not proper. "I have something" is proper. "I've something" is the proper conjunction.
Silver Adept: Technically it should be "I have it" or if you just wanted to shorten it, "Have it." LOL. |

It originates from the fact that all this country's values are being thrown out the window. Too many kids listen to rap music and emulate poor English, and everyone is too lazy/afraid to kick them in the ass and set them straight. Same goes for watching TV, etc. Have you ever been to NYC? No one knows how to speak proper English. Okay, okay...I'll stop ranting before it gets out of hand, but this stuff just pisses me off like no other and I could go on and on for volumes about it.
At any rate, I also use complete sentences while online whenever possible. I don't think that there is anything inherently wrong with using short-handish type things, especially if you're playing a game and time is of the essence. I mean, even I do it sometimes. The problem is little brats who feel the need to pick fights about it because they think they're "cool" or "l337". Just remember the old internet addage when kids start picking fights with you for stupid crap(WARNING: Extremely un-PC phrase to follow...):
Fighting on the internet is like winning the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.
I apologize if anyone was offended by that. I don't mean any harm by it.
All you have to do is ignore them and proceed to kick their ass in the game. Then go tear them apart with vicious rhetoric and make everyone else laugh at them. You can even try tearing into them Shakespearian like. For example: "I have kicketh thine arse, for thou art a rump-fed maggot-pie who possess no useful skill."
Ok, I'm gonna stop before this goes any farther...
