Oh man I am so glad someone said this.

Its like that blasted telephone game where you line up and take a phrase and whisper it to the next person and then it changes as it goes down. It's so true. Why do people think that there are so many different versions of the stories of famous historical people?

Anyway onto the matter at hand. I think everyone will be remembered by someone and it'll get passed on over time to eternity. In psychology the use a model called the Memory Decay Model. If let's say Therin interacts with me for about 1 years' worth of time over my life, I will not remember that much information over that time. But I will however mention it to someone, somewhere, at sometime. Although it will get smaller and smaller as it continues on the path of time, that memory will exist somewhere. That's just my idea.

Now do I want to be remembered? Maybe...I'd rather my actions be remembered then my name. If I invent some new medical technology, it's more important that it carries on then my name carrying on. So I hope I've made an impact on someone

End of line

Excel

But I'll still be remembered for doing something worth remembering. If people 3000 years from now think I was a bloodthirsty tyrant, that's fine with me. The point is that they know I existed. I have left my tangible mark on the world, and have proven that I can do something worth remembering. That's all that matters.

So you would rather be remembered in history as a total Smacktard?
I'd rather be remembered as Dust than Hitler.
It doesn't take much to do something worth remembering. Look at history.

Don't forget, Hitler thought he was doing the right thing. In his position, I would be glad that I was still remembered 300 years later, which, barring some extreme natural disaster, he will be, and that my message was still being passed along, even if most people believed it was the wrong message. Don't get me wrong, I'm not siding with Hitler. But even if most people remember me as a total smacktard, there will still be a few who remember me as a hero, and who continue to pass my teachings along to others.

And to do something worth remembering takes a strength very few people can access. I have to find a way to unlock it.

I don't think I'm too hard on myself at all. Especially when you consider the telephone analogy. Not only would my flaws be remembered, but they would be elaborated on.

Or, they'd be erased. Which is really just as bad.

I'd much rather be forgotten.

Neither does anyone who is. Myself included. I think the last time we got into that argument, it kept going until you finally told me I was right just to get me to shut up Rolling Eyes

Well, that's your preference. The way I see it, though, if I can do something that outshines the horrendous things that reside in my past, then I have attoned for them. If people a hundred years from now look back at me and go "Yeah, he did some pretty fucked up things...but look at all the good he did!" then I think my life will have been worth living, in spite of my flaws and mistakes.

Easiest way to do that is kill someone important. Bushy, the Pope, Madonna. Quick easy way to leave your mark on history for a good several hundred years. But time is a river. Everything will ne forgotten oneday, and thats just the same of it. Gotta deal with it though.

If I killed Bush, I'd just be another Bushwhacker (*guffaw*) and that wouldn't atone for the evil that I've already done :p

The Pope is a religions figure, and I refuse to even go near religious discussions, much less religious figures ^_^

...I got nothing against Madonna, though. *grabs shotgun* Anyone wanna go huntin'?

I agree with Therin. You as a human being have unlimited potential to influence the course of history the way you see fit. To not believe this is the gateway to laziness. And as Buddha said "do not waste your time idlely sitting". Wow, a fat man that sat for ours telling someone to not sit idlely...that was a deep, deep man.

Later.

Obviously you don't know anything about buddah. The "fat" man is a distortion of the buddah that happened in china. The entire POINT of Buddhism is the middle way. Meaning do nothing to excess, but do not abstain either. Do what you need to maintain balance then your mind will be free to gain enlightenment. The real Buddha is depicted as such:
1 2

Maybe you should actually learn the mans teachings before you make light of things you don't understand.
