I'll state again, I could give you an answer but it wouldn't be appropriate.
Anyway, I do agree with you, Ming. Necessity is usually the mother of invention. But I think that's what makes this particular moment in time so odd... at this point in time it seems as if necessity has taken a back seat when it comes to invention. These days it seems like friviolity guides invention, which, while odd, DOES seem to get new things invented. I guess the question would be whether or not things invented from friviolity are really worth inventing.

Internet forums I can understand! (or, at least I can come up with a REASON). See, the internet was first started as a vast repository of articles and papers for intellectuals to use and read. It's beginings were in science. Internet forums, ergo, could have arisen as ways for the intellectual community to communicate and discuss ideas with one another.

No no, I think that it's out of my system now. It was just 3 in the morning when I was posting that, so I was starting to get 'funny' because of sleep depravity (sp?). I agree with Sperrit though that today it seems like we create things nowadays out of being frivolouls. But not to say that it's not worth inventing those things however. No one NEEDED a George Foreman grill, but it seems like everyone has one today. It was something that people took a liking to, and they bought, and I'm sure it made a good amount of people happy, so it was worth it to them. And you can bet it was worth it to George Foreman, who can probably retire on his own small island with the fortune he raked in, and is still raking in, from those things. |
