Frankly, I don't see the problem with the casting.
she played the role well. Which i'm sure, is why they casted her.
The character is Japanese. The actress isn't. It dosen't matter that much. She's just playing a role. If anything, props to the production team for going against type-casting. too many good, talented people get turned down for stupid reasons.
Christian Bale is Brittish. ....yet he played a wonderful Bruce Wayne in the new Batman movie. I feel no resentment in the fact that a Brittish man was cast as an american.
Now, had they decided to convert the character of Nitta Sayuri into a Chinese woman, then I could see where there would be a problem. ...but they didn't. The character of Sayuri is still a japanese woman....reguardless if they casted a woman of different origin.
Madona made a great Eva Duarte/Perone...and she shure as heck isn't Argentinian.
