Microsoft mentioned that they have no plans at this time to support Blu-ray as an option, they continue to believe that HD-DVD is the HD playback standard of choice.
Maybe someone should forward this thread to M$, they apparently didn't get the memo.
The only sad thing is that gamewise, 99% of the companies are still gonna turn out 800MB games (Namco, Capcom) but put them on gazillion gig BluRay discs. Same as they did (and still do) when the industry went from CDs to DVDs. I don't think this dicision will affect the XB360 but it will help boost the PS# as a cheap BluRay player. This does obviously mean the spillover affect will help Sony over M$ but I can't see M$ inputting BluRay compatibility in the 360. Wouldn't they have to get Sony's Ok, first anyway? |

Yes... and they have already come forward twice and said that they are not ruling that out.
And honestly... if you were Sony... why would you turn them down. You'll get a piece of the pie on every one of the accessories they sell... then you have 360 owners buying Blu-ray discs.
Win win.
MS says they aren't against making a blu-ray drive as they already have a partnership of sorts with Sony since Vaios have Windows on them. |
