Wow, so many issues, so little space...
Sony will come out last because they do dominate the market so vastly. The original PS/PSOne has sold thru 20million. That beats XB & GC combined so you know they control the world (Take that, Bill Gates!). The XB was designed to put "set top boxes" in our homes and Microsoft/Gates still wants to make it so that the system is a Wunderkid. Games, music, dinner...our system will do it all.
Sega has always had the "best" system but they were also "the worlds' R&D" in my opinion. They would create something then everyone else would reverse engineer it, fix the bugs, then outsell them. Had Sega not rushed the Saturn out (and added in last minute polygon processing) I believe they would have killed the PS. Dragon Force, Guardian Heroes, Panzer Dragoon,...I mean how many of the PS games (not series that are just floating sequels) are considered Classics? Jumping Flash? Wipeout?
Gameplay will always beat graphics but graphics sell, period. The day we jack into the games themselves we can sell gameplay but until then Mr. Coporation has only 3 minutes to make us love his game. It's sure as Hell not gonna be with "And when you reach the third stage you can feel your character start to grow with you". It's gonna be with "See how you can see the snot drip from his nose when you shoot him!"
The system loyalty is pretty much a dead issue nowadays since virtually anything worth having is multi-platform. Back in the Sega/Nin days (I was always a Sega man myself) you had Capcom & Square on SNES and you had EA on Genesis. Sega always killed Nin in 1st party stuff to me mainly because I'm not 8 years old. Then came multi-platform and companies actually had to fall back on 1st party stuff more...oh, and create "exclusivity" to keep from showing that their systems couldn't compete with each other.
I'll get a PS3...then a Revolution when a Pokemon game comes out...and ignore the XB successor again. PS cause it'll play a billion games and I'll feel comfortable with the scheme (hated the PS controllers at first). I'll get NinRev for Pokemon. When XB can get a series besides Halo I might look at it.
Shino, the best controller ever made was the Japanese Saturn one (the small one). Give it 4 shoulder buttons and two sticks and it's gaming nirvana. Why Sony sticks with the stupidass "pad" they use (sunken crosspad design and diamond configged buttons) is solely as an homage to Nin. Again, Sega had it all correct.
Games-wise I have to say PS has it but primarily because of the sheer glut of isht on the market. They do out produce GC and XB 10-1 in quality games but they out produce them 97-1 in total number. Take out the 1st party games for each system and Sony kills tho. GC would lose Nin games (90% of everything worth owning on the system anyway), XB would lose Halo (that is all that's on the damn system), and Sony would lose 989. Sony actually gets stronger! LOL
Nin Rev will be as revolutionary as a cold glass of water. I'll hit that more in another thread but we all know it's all about gimmicks and hype when releasing a system. Touch screens for a portable? Please.
Summation of the above:
1) PS family continues to rule. Microsoft and Nin fight it out again (tho gaining a better share)
2) Nin continues to dominate portable market PS will be barely a trickle of piss in the pot, trust me.
3) Microsoft leans heavier towards invading your homes and minds with "1-stop" marketing. "We'll do it all for you, just tell us what you have in your home, what you do in your home, and what your bank account numbers are"
4) Games will get worse overall actually in terms of "revolutionizing" anything. PSP already has more sequels announced than new properties 5:1. Remember when Gameboy had Tetris ("Tetris? What's that? Wow, that's cool!"). Somehow I don't think we'll have that feeling playing Death, Jr. It's time once again that someone CREATES a genre. It's not that hard to innovate and take a chance. Tetris and Castle Wolfenstein to Magic and Mage Knight. All have spawned loads of "me too" games that only cement the originals as The Kings.
5) I will continue to flawlessly predict the future...in my own mind anyway. Hey check the siggie, peeps! |

It does make one wonder, doesn't it? I mean, as much as most of it is probably just advertising bullcrap, one has to wonder just what they really are cooking up. It probably has something to do with interfacing with the game, though what exactly they'll be implementing is beyond knowing at this point.

Does anyone else think it's a little late to release a system to compete with the ps2? |

PS3 won't be $500. Sony will initially lose money on the machine like they have on the past two they have released.

Only because we don't buy into the hype, Shino-san.
Don't get me wrong, if it produces then I'll be there. I don't care if you call it the Blastmeanotherasshole console. I'm all about the games. My list of faves is so eclectic some one could commit me on first glance. I've never been, nor ever will be, a bandwagon jumper. If I like a GT or Mario game it's because I LIKE IT, not because I was told to like it.
Speaking of which I gotta get into Front Mission 4. What's better than a turn based strategy Mech game?
