Very true, very true.

What happened to "voluptuous"?

I like this word.

Voluptuous is not "in" right now. It was for a very very brief period of time, but the media had the wrong idea of the word. They were calling Jessica Simpson voluptuous because she had big boobs and was curvy, but in my book that's not the meaning of the word.

Voloptuos was the standard of beauty in the ancient world. Look at all the greek statues of women, and the paintings during the middle ages. The greeks at least always tried to portray what they felt was the perfect physical form, and their statues certainly don't have ribs poking people who look at them.

Although for as bad as things are right now at least it isn't like it was in the victorian era. My mom has a trunk load of clothes from the time period and DANG! The dresses and skirts are for women of my height, but the waist would fit a six year old. The corset must have been the most evil inhumane invention of all time.

Not all corsets are bad..The ones that lift the boobies but only constrict the waist by an inch or two are fun...Not that I'd know first hand...*cough*

Yay for sexy corsets! =3 I made one once...XD It's kinda scary..you're not supposed to wear anything under them, are you? o.o Ah conventions...I was so brave =3

Voluptuous(sp? o.O) to me means someone who is healthy looking, and just radiates with warm beautiy =3 That is is sexiest of all!

Well, I wouldn't know anything about corsets (though doubtless I'd have little trouble fitting into those-- I -can- still wear children's size clothing) but my bodice from Ren. Fest is probably one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I own (other than my pajama pants. mmm)

I find skinny girls to be ugly and annoying. You look perfectly healthy to me. And that's what everyone should want. Someone healthy! Not overweight or underweight, just someone that has a little jig in thier step and such.

I think you look fine. And the media is constantly confusing us with images. Screw them. I'll know what I"m supposed to look for in a partner. I don't need magazine ads to tell me this.

*pats Shanny* Yes you are a tiny one. Here eat a brownie.

So I now know way more than I ever wanted to know about Victorian underwear. I asked my mom one little question the other day and she hands me her term paper from her FIT days on the subject. *sigh* Light...
But really the corsets we all know are far tamer than what they actually were. In some cases they started girls wearing the corset so young it actually altered the bone structure. Of course they were rather sickly little things for the rest of their lives.

Yep. Those things are very hard to ware and it is kinda hard to breath in them.. I wore a very very modernized version when I tried on a dress once (didn’t buy it.. was very uncomfortable. And the bodice thingy was made into the dress so we didn’t know it was in it until I had it on.... it was weird. I only tried it on to please my mother and grandmother) .. It was Nothing like those Victorian things *shivers*.....

shany it wouldn’t matter how tiny you are dear they pull it as tight at possible . In their book the thinner the better

You can barely move but it dose make sure your posture is correct. One slump and you get jabbed or pinched in the side..
I have also heard about women of that time period cracking and braking ribs.. And some of them even had them removed (I’m not sure if this is true or not)..
The scary thing is I saw a women waring one at dragon con .. And literally her waist was like smaller than shany or me.. Her waist was like 6 inches.. *Shivers* one it was kinda sickening. She looked like she would brake in half if she even coughed . . .I felt sorry for her.^^;;
