"that's what you get for feeding us the apple"
okay, now that that JOKE is out of the way. Even though I am male, I have done a lot of study in this area 'was thinking about being a OBGYN' and there are all kinds of way to lessen the symptoms but what I find weird is that your symptoms start that far ahead of your actual menstration.
That could mean a hormonal imbalance that is causing your brain to kick off the cycle soon. OR your brain is expecting the cycle a week early. Or you could just hate your period so much you get all twisted a week before and it makes you feel like crap, kinda like being on your menstration.
As far as lessening the symptoms, Midol is great, I take it for bad headaches and muscle pains. As far as feeling depressed and not sleeping, eat well, plenty of fruits and veggies, tomatoes are real good because of the anti-oxidents will help, and do a little physical activity if you can stand it. It will help release chemicals that will make you feel better.
Other than that, it suxors to be a girl once a month.
Salut. |

Skylah I can totally sympathize with you!!!!! I use to get PMS sooooooo bad I couldn't breathe during cramps and I was constantly in bed because of how bad it was...I don't want to be gross here, but so much "stuff" came out I was afraid to move!!! It was awful!! Anyways, I'm about to share my saving grace with you (i'm not sure if someone already suggested it)............BIRTH CONTROL!! It's saved my PMS life!!!!! Serioulsy though, it's been a saving grace! My gyno told me about it and it's worked like a charm!! If you can I would try it!!! GOOD LUCK WITH IT! |

i found that birth control helped a bit too, although as a warning you will gain a decent bit of weight from it. i think there are other prescription medicines out there too for pms, if you weren't into the idea of birth control. also, i started running every day this past summer, and since then i've hardly gotten my period at all (although i was never one to get it regularly), so maybe running might help. at any rate, exercise does work to relieve some symptoms, even if it's just light exercise (walking, crunches, etc.)

I do agree exercise does help a lot too, but when i was pms sooo bad that was the last thing i wanted to do!!!
HOwever, birth control DOES NOT make you gain weight. It's a myth!!! Trust me, I've been on it for a while now and i have not gained any weight from it. My gyno has done research into it and knows the truth about it! |

good point. it's hard to motivate yourself to move when you're curled up in pain in a fetal position on your bed.
not everyone gains weight from the pill, but i know i packed on 15 pounds from all the hormones in it. some people react differently to different brands too. i hear the new "light" pills are a lot gentler.
either way, it's tough to be a chick |

...wow. I'm totally glad all I do is get a little moody and the occasional cramp or two. Mine is almost always bearable (except the emotionalness, which can get difficult. Especially when I'm stressed. *coughs* sorry about that, guys) but, I do know a few people who get mind-numbingly painful ones.
I really do feel for those of you who have it hard. >_< |

Ah, I understand. I used to have the worst PMS ever.
Have you tried birth control? No, seriously. I was like "you're kidding, right?" at first, but it really balanced me out, made my symptoms less painful, my moods more tolerable, and made me a better person to be around.
Besides! You know when you're gonna get it, before you do. You only have it for 7 days (exactly--Mine went for weeks at a time sometimes x_X I had one for a month and a half one time)
And, having someone who really understands is really important. My better half understands all my little outbreaks when I'm "sick" (as he calls it)
As for the nosey problem, they make special soaps for that time, and they really work. Trust me, I have the most dissagreeable skin of all time.
As for pain...ever seen commercials for Aleve? They say it's doctor reccomended, right? And I was always like "yeah yeah..." Until, I went to the doctor the other day (this monday, actually) and she was asking me about my PMS symptoms, and all I had to complain about was headaches, backaches, and other pains...and she recommended Aleve strait out. She said two aleve is almost perscription strength.
Make sure to follow label directions!
Ah, and also...my last advice. If none of this works, or the problem gets REAL bad...you might want to talk to your doctor about a problem called PMDD--I was never diagnosed with it, but it was suggested. (Turns out, I was just a moody person to begin with--Go figure.) Your doctor can give you some prescription medicines to help you with it.
Here's some more information on PMDD:

I have that Katana...thats why mine are so bad...the birth control slipped my mind...Yeah that new Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo is pretty good..it also helps your acne..its amazing as to what it can do...also..if your painkillers have stopped working..you might want to try going to the doctor and see if he will put you on the pill or patch...although the patches take some getting used to..believe me...i couldnt wear them..they make you burn all over...but if it gets rid of cramps *shrugs* i guess its worth it. |
