True, but sometimes that just isn't enough. What if your opponent destroys the Aquitects Will? Or they nuke their own islands? What if they lock your board down so you cannot attack or deal damage?
An alternate win condition is really important to have for decks to be able to battle through an opponents strategy.
Might I suggest the addition of:
DROWNER OF SECRETS [LORWYN] |

...which is exactly why I started looking for snow-covered swamps. One of my old table top buddies would build his decks to suit mine. After I stomped him with my "back from the grave" deck (i'll post specific cards once I get my cards back out) He started using swamp and forest walk creatures. If I remember, it's a green, black & white deck. I have plenty of snow-covered forests and plains, but only about 3 snow-covered swamps. (Yes, snow-covered landwalking is a different ability...to my knowledge) |

I'm not familiar with coldsnap. The only thing I'm really sure of is I've only seen one card with a snow-covered land walking ability, and I've never seen anyone play a creature with that ability either, so it's a safe bet to defend against landwalking. |

My favorite decks to play were Kird Ape Deck (Red/Green speed decks centered around getting lots of small creatures out quick backed with Giant Growths + Chain Lightning backup) and Thief Deck (Steal Artifact/Control Creature cards with Dopplegangers and Demoic Hordes backed with Counterspell type cards). |

These decks actually still exist competitively, due to the reprinting of Kird Ape in 9th Edition and the printing of the entire Gruul clan from Guildpact (I can get more into that later if you want).
Regarding Drowner of Secrets...I think that to take full advantage of Drowner, you need to build your deck around the milling strategy...which I actually think is VERY valid right now, but I was trying to keep things simple and to the point with this deck. I don't think it works to just cram 1 or 2 in there and hope for the best, although maybe it would be a valid sideboard argument. Also, Aquitect's Will is not an enchantment...it's a Sorcery that puts a counter on the land and makes it an island, so it's pretty difficult to destroy...and most decks won't and don't even have the means to nuke it's own lands at will. |

i want to make a reanimater deck but i don't know where to start.. it will be ext format tho... i was kinda thinkin a dimir-esque fairy milling deck, using oona prowler and cloudseeder as discarders, also stuff like mind rot that i can use on me or my opponent depending on the situation, debters kneel would be useful, as well as the reanimates that let me steal from my opponents graveyard... hmm so many options... i needz |

The first thing you should make sure you get is a set of Zombify and/or Dread Return. And depending on how fast you want it to work, you should probably get a set of Life / Death from Apocalypse.
Then you should figure out which creatures you want to use as reanimation targets. Keep in mind that they don't need to be on-color with your deck because you don't intend to play them through conventional means. The most popular reanimation target is Akroma, Angel of Wrath, but they're like $12 each.
You want to look out for GIANT creatures that have relevant abilities, if possible. The most notable would be Haste, so you end the game quickly. A great hasty, large creature would be Rorix Bladewing, or even Hunted Dragon. Hunted Dragon's drawback is pretty minimal considering you'll be winning the game pretty quickly.
Bogardan Hellkite is also a pretty nice target. While he doesn't have Haste, he comes into play and deals 5 damage as you choose to any number of targets. The only problem with him is that he's expensive, at around $10.
The other option is to go get things that they can't block. Tidal Kraken is pretty good for this, being a 6/6 Unblockable. He's also $1 or less.
That should give you a good amount of stuff to think about. Let us know what you decide on. |
