To carry over from the thread of News so as not to Off Topic it:

Yessss. Come to the veg side. Eet's deeelicious. |
Oh I knoes! It's second nature when we eat at home all the time now (YAY for THAT lifestyle change!) and Chris is a strict veggie. He's leaning to Vegan but I told him he'd kill me if I could cook with real cheese. (Plus he likes cheese too much anyway).
Thing is though - I cannot give up the sushi. I also miss my mom's old recipes but as there are more and more meat subs coming out I'm finding it easy to convert the recipes. Just gotta wait on the schnitzel and let go not having Saurbraten anymore (sniffle).
I'm also trying out the Bento Box approach. My lovely sis, Sakura, managed to pick up some bento boxes for Chris and I while she was in Japan. Not only is it going to be helpful to stay healthy on packing our lunches but it'll also be great for portion control. I've been following bento blogs and gotta say it looks quite tasty! |

Haha! Well, he made a step to being veg for the same reasons that he would go vegan, so who's to say he won't actually do it? ;)
Max keeps nudging me to be vegan, and I would do it but cheese is my hold-back too :B Although I rarely eat it anymore, I don't know that I could be a religious label-reader.

You know, I tried to eat sushi (because I used to LOVE it) after I had been a vegetarian for a few years, and having not had fish in so long, I could taste the fishie-ness in it and it wasn't so good anymore.
So basically, once you go without it for a while, you don't really miss it anymore XD
And speaking of meat replacers, I saw vegan caviar the other day! :O Very strange indeed.

I've been eating less meat than I used to, and eating more fish, chicken, and turkey (as opposed to beef, lamb, and goat). I've taken to eating those Trader Joe's frozen stuff for lunch and dinner since I'm now working about 55 hours/week, and going to class and I cannot cook.
I could go vegitarian if push came to shove IF I had time to cook. Since I would much rather cook my own food to ensure that it is prepped properly (Well I prefer that anyway but I need more time). |

Yeah Melissa was none too happy that I finally stuck to my guns on this one. She had talked me back to carnivorism at least twice that I can remember (She's the vegetarian's devil, I'm sure ). But once she got over the shift she's come to be my biggest supporter. It's inspiring and a true testament of our relationship.
There's a few big trials for me here, though:
1. It's more expensive.
2. It's more time consuming.
3. It HAS to be a choice. I wanted to take our little troopers (children) to the veg side but I decided to let it be their choice if ever they make it. This also helps Melissa feel more able to provide meals for them and herself. |

I've been unintentionally delving into more veggie dishes. I made a great Spaghetti sauce with Eggplant, Kalamata olives, Marinated mushrooms, Artichoke hearts.
Adding the artichokes keeps Dloe's paws out of it since he can't stand them.
Then I made a sort of Asian Veggie soup last night with the last of a bagged veggie mix, Ginger soy broth (From TJ's) and some leftover spaghetti....I added some other asian dipping sauce to it too that did a lot to spice up the flavor.---What's funny is that this turned out to be a 100% Trader Joe's meal!
I'm really liking the pasta I bought...It was a whole wheat pasta with Flax seed, which gave it a ton of protein but still tasted like normal pasta to me. I will definitely keep using it in the future. I don't eat gobs of pasta, but at least this way, it has a little more worth than just a carbo load. |

Yeah I have to say thank Mod for Trader Joes. I love the fact they have so many neat-o veggie options and on the quick too!
We buy the frozen veggie fried rice and whip up a quick meal for those where we're needing to fly out the door for family bowling nights.
Aside from that, my sis-in-law bought us the Imus Ranch Cookbook. (yeah yeah it's Don Imus' ranch but dammit it's his wife and all those recipes IS TASTAY!)
All organic, all really awesome substitutes, and never hungry afterwards. One heck of a coleslaw.
And SPEAKING of coleslaw, typically the main ingredient is mayo (aside from the cabbage) and I have got to say I've tried the new canola mayo out there. YUMMO! |

Well she's got a good thing going with her vegetarian cookbook! This week is all meals from her recipes! She's got some new fans down in the ATL!
Check it out! A REAL Doot dinner! Crabiless Crab Cakes (no crab in them at all - primarily made of zucchini) with Lemon Dill Sauce. Nom Nom Nom! I'm getting the hang of this cooking thing! (I cheated because I was running out of time and didn't make the pasta salad I was planning, nor the broccoli cheddar soup.) Accompanying them are balsamic fire roasted veggies (TJ's) and a tasty Lentil soup (courtesy of Amy's Veggie Soup). Probably took 20 minutes total.
I also managed to make some extra for our bento's which are jam packed with yummy goodness such as veggie friend rice, veggie gyoza, (both courtesy TJ's), crabiless cake, hummus with sriracha sauce, parmesan garlic pita chips, a kiwi for the Mister and a blood orange for the Mrs. |

TJ's is great for veggies, you just have to watch the sauces that come with them. |

Not really. If you buy TVP, rice, and wheat gluten (to make your own seitan) in bulk, not only is it affordable but it's cheaper than eating meat :D buying fresh veggies all the time can get expensive, but when the farmers market starts back up again (they're done for the winter, here) then it will also be cheap.
And it's only more time consuming compared to meat if you aren't doing anything fancy with the meat.
side note--I only realized recently that you're veggie! yayness. You'll have to get Terin to show you Broskulli ;D |
