I find it kind of funny and a little scary that Orwell's newspeak seems to have become a popular part of the American Government's vocabulary. Doubtlessly a coincidence, but almost profectic with such ideals as 'homeland security' and other new bills. I doubt I could take hearing another word like "HUMINT".

:err:

1984 was so annoying with their what, "double-plus-good" and no interesting things like evil or beautiful or anything.
I hate Utopia books

Uh... Books like Brave New World (By Huxley, another good book) and 1984 (Orwell) are not 'Utopian', they are 'Dystopian'.

The point of them is to show how societies can go wrong. Your not supposed to like the societies portrayed. They are hyperboles of where the authors saw the world was going, and what they thought was wrong.
