As many of you may know, Pierce Brosnan will not be returning to the next Bond flick. Apparently, MGM started negotiations with him and halfway through, they decided that they wanted to use someone else. My theory is that they want to make Bond appeal to the younger crowd more than it does, and my proof is the guy they had in mind to play the new Bond was Colin Farrel. Thank God he declined...firstly because I can't stand him, and secondly...he's just NOT James Bond.

James Bond has become more than just a secret agent. There is a certain characteristic that the actor has to have to make you really believe he is James Bond. Connery had it, Moore had it, Brosnan had it. Colin Farrel does not. If anything, he's too young. James Bond has to be a middle aged guy because you have to believe that he has the experience to back up the fact that he's James Bond. He's not just some punk kid.

They want to make James Bond more "edgy". What they don't realize is that they're going to tarnish the very image of the film series. As it stands, it's perfect...so don't try to fix it. If you want an edgier secret agent film, go watch XXX.

So my question is this: Taking into account everything that I have mentioned, as well as your own beliefs, ideas, etc....who do you think should play the next Bond?

(As a side note, P. Diddy has expressed an interest in playing James Bond...)

I heard a rumor McGregor might be the next bond. I don't think that would be too bad of a choice. It would be way better than Colin Farrel.

I'm with Ultra on this one. I think McGregor would make an excellent Bond.

I don't think he fits the Bond look. When I think James Bond, I think of the more middle aged, seasoned actor. Not someone young. For reference, some of the rumored candidates are: Ewan Macgregor, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, Christian Bale, Colin Firth, Heath Ledger, Hugh Jackman, Eric Bana, Clive Owen, and Hugh Grant. But there are a lot more.

Just a thought...but what about Jason Statham? You know...Turkish from Snatch, The Transporter, Handsom Rob from The Italian Job, Bacon from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels...

Or maybe Connery just needs to come out of retirement and show all these young whipper-snappers how it's done...

Sean Bean? Or whatever his name is. The dude who played Boromir. He'd be a good choice, IMO.

Heh...for a second I thought you really had something there with that idea. He does seem to fit the picture...when I think about it. But then I checked out some pictures of him...and for some reason he looked familiar in some strange way. He looked like someone I had seen in a Bond flick before, and upon further investigation, I confirmed that. He played Alec Trevelyan, aka 006, in Goldeneye...

So that idea's out. What about Jeremy Irons? Or is he more "badguyish"?

And I could already picture the title of a Bond film where Connery would come back to star in: James Bond in "Goldenhip"

Demon angel

Hugh Jackman does have a bit more of the rugged, yet smooth look that is important for Bond. Really when I think of someone to play the character, it needs to be someone in the tradition of Cary Grant, or of course Sir Sean Connery.

I could see having someone like Eric Bana play Bond. He was quite the badass in Troy, despite having to die to Brad Pitt.

I wonder what would happen if they decided to go "Rogue Agent" on us with the next bond. I don't think it's very likely but what if they made the next bond movie from the villain's perspective.

I think that that would defeat the whole purpose. As it is, James Bond is a pretty perfect concept...it shouldn't be messed with. There are other spy flicks out there if you want something different.
