I don't see how he did that, but the funniest part is.. he could have installed one 7800GTX and it would still smoke those four 6600's easily. |

Oh yeah?
Hardware Zone
In this test, two 6600 SLIed together benchmarked 104.5 at 1024x768x32 High Quality resolution, and 91.2 at 1280x1024x32 High Quality resolution. We can assume four SLIed cards dish out even better performances.
Overclockers New Zealand
In this test, the 7800GTX benchmarked an average of 99.2 at 1024x768x32 Medium Quality resolution (blue bars), and an average of 91.0 at 1280x1024x32 High Quality resolution (yellow bars).
Verdict: The standard 6600 SLI setup comes on top of the 7800GTX, even if by a hair. While redundant in games even one or two 6600 could handle, the true strength of the x4 setup will only be shown in very demanding games. |

Yes but those are probibly a set of 256mb 7800s. the 512mb 7800s crush the 256mb ones, also you wont notice much of a diff till 1600x1200 |

Those results are not really scientific either.
First of all, neither article shows the systems they tested on, at least that I could find. There could be very large variations in system hardware.
Second, the first test running the 6600's in SLi does not have AA turned on, whereas the other article benchmarking the 7800's that I believe you're comparing has 2xAA.
Also, Doom 3 is not the only title one should compare. If you look at this HardOCP article, you will see that 6800's and 7800's perform at very similar framerates.
Now check the next page. With the exact same hardware and video cards running Half-Life 2, there is a huge difference between the 6800 and 7800 cards.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but those two articles are not what I would call concrete evidence. There are missing variables there. |
