Hey um well as you all know I speak Al Bhed. Well the other day I was playing FFX and an Al Bhed shouts out: "Sin ec lusa!". Well that means "Sin is come". So my question is: If the developers for Squeenix USA are going to go through the trouble of translateing the Al Bhed form Romanji to English why not fix all the engrish? Did they get lazy? Did they think we wouldn't care? Did they think we were to stupid to figure out Al Bhad in the first place? I mean what is going on? Further examination of Al Bhed shows that is is riddled with Engrish! I'm very disapointed. I mean don't get me wrong I love Engrish as well as the next guy but why would Squeenix get so sloppy? Sure the FFX project was a long one but all the more reason for them to translate the Al Bhed properly! Ryukku ec syd! E muja Al Bhed! Cu cyt du caa ed pidlrat cu! Sad

(Translation: "Sin is come" is an example more of how the Al Bhed speak an older style of English. It's not really Engrish as you say, just an antiquated way of speaking. And yes, I cheated and used a translator.)

For someone who learns Al Bhed, or any other language, as Tidus does throughout the game, that could be a pretty accurate translation of his learning abilities, as well as all the problems of language that happen in translation, where literally, it might be "Sin is come!", but contextually it becomes "Sin is coming!" because of somthing like, perhaps, a particle or some other signifier that Tidus hasn't picked up yet.

(Although as we see, Yuna speaks reasonable Al Bhed all by herself)

I know. What I'm saying is it's not what Tidus is saying. It's what the Al Bhed(ians?) are saying! I mean sure I can understand Tidus or hey, even Yuna slipping up but Cid? Rikku? The are native Al Bhed and should speak it fluently. I worked hard to get the translations right I know all the rules.I mean sure Kugyou can come ver here with his perfect Al Bhed and be all cool 'cuz he used a translator but chances are I WROTE that translator. So how come I can speak Al Bhed better than the natives? Like a AWA there was this girl dressed as Rikku and she said to her boyfriend or whatever "I lobe you". Well she meant "I love you" see and that was probably as a result of the Engrish for Squeenix's lazyness....

You know what the funny part is? That it's a video game.

You're getting worked up over a non existant language that will never help you in the future. If you put that you speak "Al Bhed" on an appliation you WILL NOT get the job...Provided it's a respectable company.

Squeenix didn't fail you, you failed you. Razz

The only people squeenix failed was the Final Fantasy fan when they released such a horrible chapter in the series.

Harsh GAAZ, the game wasn't -that- bad Rolling Eyes . But, as far as the language goes, it could have been done on purpose to illustrate the differences between the Al-Bhed tongue and whatever other dialect is in the game. Because lets face it, there is no language where everything is spelled exactly the same, except with different letters, even though the letters are of the same alphabet, nor is one ever likely to have developed that way. Just look at the differences in all of the Latin languages, yes they are all recognizable, and often words are similar, but sentence structure varies from language to language, as well as spelling, and grammar construction, not just letters are replaced with other ones.

The point of that rambling paragraph was this, even a simplistic made up language, is still another language. Translating anything, even from one similar language to another often does not work perfectly, add on top of that the fact the entire game is translated anyways, and you realize, they made a few mistakes, perhaps, oh no!

You completely ignored the point of my post, instead taking authority on a "language" that you did not create, nor over which do you have any control. You completely side-stepped my argument that the Al Bhed speak in an antiquated mode (somewhat like the Amish), instead choosing to portray the mistake of a cosplayer as another way how Square "failed you". Seriously - it's just a made-up cipher "language" created for a video game. In the scheme of things, it's going to help you in life about as much as being able to speak all the Elvish dialects.

thln'gan Hol d'jatlh'a? That's not important either. It's. Just. A. Game.

P.S. - I may not have written that particular translator, but I've written them too.

P.P.S. - E ryja hu vindran tacena du byndelebyda eh drec teclicceuh.
