A very unmerry birthday...

So, my birthday was on the 26th of last month. And my day should have been great. I went to school with Panda as I usually do, and got a "happy birthday" from her which got me a little excited. Surely, I would recieve many other birthday tidings without having to remind anyone. At least my family would remember. Right?

No. It seemed like nobody gave a care. No one at home. No one at work. Not even any of my closest friends. In fact, I had to coax my brother to go to dinner with me, even though I told him weeks before hand that we were going to go out for my birthday, I had to try and pry him away from his fiance to come to dinner with me. In the end I came home to a "Where have you been" from my mom, who til this day still has to recognize that I had my birthday. So my actual birthday sucked. Maybe the next day would be better.

Still no. I went to work, where they have a giant freaking poster that has everybody's B-Days on it. Although I admit I wasn't looking forward to getting my car shrink wrapped, at least I would've known that somebody would have taken the time to look at the rediculously sized not to be missed poster to think to themselves, "Hey, It's Greg's birthday." But I guess I haven't really been around there that long for anyone to notice.

And even though I'm not really super close to anyone here, I thought to myself that somebody would have noticed it in the birthday thread. Heck, I know I'm not a super active poster either, but I check the boards every single day. It's like the first url I enter when ever I get online. But, It kinda seemed like a kick in the balls when Nacht got a B-Day thread when she hasn't been active for months.

Maybe It's because I don't go parading around telling everyone that my birthday is coming up. Maybe it's because I can remember the b-days of people that are close to me that I expect the same from them. Or maybe I build myself up to be important enough to others to warrant such a credit, but really I'm just the "aquanitance". It's not like I go around telling people to buy me a present. I just want someone to acknowledge me, just like someone who works their ass of for work/school wants a "Nice Work" from their boss or at the bottom of their paper.

I guess I just want to know that other people really care about me. That I mean so much to somebody that they'd remember such an insignificant day and say something, unlike a holiday when it's expected from everyone. Or maybe I'm just selfish. I don't really know what it is.

Well... first... Happy Birthday!

I think there is very little doubt about one thing Nogs... we do care about you.

The fact that you didn't have a thread is partially my falut. I have yet to put the birthday field into the profiles so they show up on the calendar. It's on the list of things to do, but it hasn't been done yet.

Sometimes people just forget.

Nacht's went up only b/c I had it on my personal calendar, b/c I know her. So I posted the thread.

I actually talked about something similar with Shan the other day. There is no one on this board that is more active on it than me. My birthday was Saturday the 28th. On the 29th, I had a birthday party. Many of the POs that I know personally from my area were there.

I don't check the board over the weekend much, but Monday when I did check... I didn't see a thread for my birthday.

Look at the date on the first post in my thread... it's the 30th... 2 days after my birthday.

It's not b/c people didn't care, it's just that it slipped their mind.

Birthdays will be on the calandar as soon as we can get that done. At that point, it will probably be easier for people to keep up with everyone's birthday.

But for now, at least here, don't worry about if people care or not. B/c there is no doubt that we do.

I'm sure that goes for everyone else in your life too. January can be a very busy month. If it upsets you, maybe you should talk to them about it. It may help a little.

I'm sorry if it seemed like I was taking a shot at you guys. It's just that it all built up on me. I turn to the community here alot for my troubles. Hell that's why I posted this rant here. You guys help me out a ton and I'm really grateful for that. But, again, I'm not as active as I'd like to be so I wasn't really expecting anything.

It's just the closest people in my life seemed to have forgotten. My own mother hasn't recognized my birthday, and she is the type of person who is known to blow up if someone forgets hers. She has a freakin rolodex just for peoples birthdays. I even told her about it to her face and it seems like she was blowing me off.

Plus I had to pretty much drag my brother to the restaurant with me, and he didn't even say anything until my girlfriend told the waiter. And I even told him a bunch of times that we would do something for my birthday. He's probably the best friend I have right now and even though he's blown me off before, I was sure he wouldn't do it on my birthday. And he still did.

At least you had a party. My party was Manda, Joe, his fiance, and me. Two of those four people almost didn't make it becasue they were going to do something else. I had to call him and even when I did, they had to talk it over to see if they would come. That hurts.

I do intend to talk to my family about this, but I just needed to vent some of my frustration first.

Noggers.. we love ya. And really I don't even think that a PO night goes by that we don't mention you. I am sorry about missing your birthday (I missed my own grandmothers too) I know I'm just particularly bad about it.

But your birthday is your special day and you have a right to be upset of how it was looked over.

I hope dispite it all, you appreciated yourself and everything you have accomplished so far. I wish we could all be in the same place to keep it from happening gain!

I know how u felt.. I have been in the same situation.. I have a twin bro who I love very dearly.. I am a very sensitive person, some years ago my bro was studying in Newcastle, UK for 4 years.. every year I sent him birthday card on snail mail cos I feel its more special and personal then e-card.. but he never sent me anything, not even a phone call to wish me happy birthday.. what hurt more was that he never missed my parents and my 2 sisters birthday.. he'll sent cards, gifts and also call on their birthday..

I told mum n my sis how I felt and they try to make me feel better by saying that he's probably busy with his study and he forgot but how the hell can he forget cos we're twin and we share the same birth date.. bah.. anyway we talked after that and I told him how I felt.. he is a marine engineer now and sails to places and he sent me cards and gifts from all the countries he stop without waiting for our birthday or any other special occasions so its all good..

BTW.. Happy Belated Birthday Nog!
