Redwood City, CA – April 21, 2006 – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin exclusively for the Nintendo DS. The latest installment in the renowned action series lets players control two different characters as they attempt to thwart a terrible plan to resurrect Dracula's Castle and bring a reign of darkness upon the world.
In Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, players take on the role of vampire hunter Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean, a young girl with tremendous magical abilities. Amidst the chaos of World War II, many lost souls from the global conflict were left to wander the world in search of salvation. Desperate to escape their terrible plight, they sought to resurrect Dracula's Castle from the rubble of society, assisted by two mysterious vampire sisters. Now Jonathan and Charlotte must work together to confront the face of evil and ensure that this villainous catastrophe is not unleashed on the world.
Evolving the action-adventure gameplay that has been the series' trademark for 20 years, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin lets players switch freely between Jonathan and Charlotte as they proceed on their heroic mission, each with their own strengths, abilities and style of play. Players can now utilize powerful Summon attacks in which both characters unleash the full extent of their combat abilities to decimate the game's more than 100 different enemies and massive bosses in new environments such as the desert and Misty Town. In their quest to stop Dracula's resurrection, Jonathan and Charlotte can collect and use different weapons, equipment and items to increase their overall skill level and acquire new abilities.
"For 20 years, the Castlevania series has set the standard for excellence and innovation in the action genre, and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin continues this trend with all-new features that expand the handheld gaming genre," said Dennis Lee, Group Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "The game's two different characters give players unprecedented variety in completing their quest, while the expanded battle system makes it more fun to take on Dracula's minions."
Created by Koji Igarashi and the development team behind 2005's acclaimed Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin will be launching this Fall. For more information on the game and the Castlevania series, please visit www.konami.com/gs/officialsites/castlevania.

From what I read in Nintendo Power, this one takes place after Bloodlines for Genesis and will include some of the characters from that game. So if you played that one, you'd be pretty good for story.
I just like the fact that they didn't emphasize use of the touch screen for this game. Also from what I've read from the article, it'll utilize switch on the fly and double team moves from both characters. Plus Johnathan will be able to use whips, swords, axes, and other weapons, thus combining classic game play and new stuff. Looks like it'll be a hit in my book. |

John Morris?
That guy sucked in Bloodlines, I hope they'll have improved him in the meantime! |

Technically, This is John Morris Jr. The OG John Morris as well as Eric Lacarde (sp?) may be making cameos.
And Co-Op mode does have me excited too. I know if me and Joe were playing, I'd prolly be John and he'd be Charlotte.
I think the thing that excites me the most though is that John isn't going to be limited to the whip. I always liked the ability that Alucard and Soma could equip different weapons, but still wished they had whips. Dawn of Sorrow kin of had this with the Whip Sword, but it wasn't the same.
Plus, Portrait of Ruin will focus more on the RPG elements. Leveling John up will earn him more sub weapons and skills like Double Jump. Charlotte will gain access to new spells and summons. And there'll be some sub-quests in order to gain some of these abilities too. |

Yea I definitly dig the whole mission thing. I like to have goals and things to do, I just hope that the missions don't turn into -chores-. One thing I could see from screenshots, is that it looks like we can go OUTSIDE again. In the LIGHT. Which is exciting to me. One of the things I read is that you can enter portraits ala Mario 64 and be transported to areas like the Egyptian Desert where you can fight Mummies and stuff. Very cool. |

Yup, Iga said he wants to take the Castlevania experience outside the Castle. So hopefully this'll be a good one. Maybe we can kill some Nazis. |
