So I was cooking lunch today. Mac and cheese with veggies. All I was doing was boiling water. But I was smelling this horrendous burning smell. Like somebody had set a cat on fire. So I walk over to the stove and try examining it to figure out what the hell was going on. THEN I remembered that the other night, we had fixed baked potato wedges with one of our meals, and a potato had fallen underneath the burner. I looked, and sure enough, there was this black crispy piece of potato underneath the circular grill. So I grab a fork an start poking around the burner, trying to grab the potato and drag it out. Then I suddenly realized.

WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING, sticking a METAL FORK in an ELECTRIC BURNER?!?!

I poked the potato a few more times for good measure, then promptly removed the fork. Then I remembered I was supposed to stir the macaroni, so I grabbed the pan and shook it, spilling the boiling hot water all over myself.

I. Am. A. GENIOUS. XD!

Actually the fork on the burner is ok because the burner doesn't transfer the electricity since it doesn't have a place to go. So it just heats up.

Also unless you were using a silver fork it's doubtful you could attract enough electricity from the burner even if you were grounded.

Though I don't think you should experiment. ^_^

But yeah, boiling water on skin = not good.

Oy! That reminds me of the time I stuck a paper clip into an electrical socket and sparks went flying out. Yea... it wasn't a good time to be me.

Buddy of mine managed to nearly set his kitchen on fire while making spaghetti. When asked what had caught fire, he responded that a noodle that "missed the pot" had nearly caused the conflagration.

Missed the pot.

My and his wife's best guess is that he must have been chucking the noodles into the pot from across the room, javelin-style.

i did that once when i was in 5th grade...cept that i put the paper clip through a pencil eraser to ground it.

Yea...bad smelling things happen often aroudn our house...especially since our house is small and likes capturing odors for a good 3 days. And as far as burning oneself...i think i hold the record. I've got like, somewhere between 10 to 15 burns all around my arms and legs, along with several scars to prove their truthfullness.

And boiling water isn't a good thing either. I've gotten boiling water on me at work, and lets just say i'm very familiar with the burn ointments. Just remember to take care of any burns you have. Any questions...i can help, i've had pretty much every kind of burn from 1st to 3rd degree.

I once lit our back patio on fire. But that story is for another time...

Remember last summer when I synged my eyelashes, eyebrows, and baby hairs from turning on the gas BBQ on high. All of a sudden I saw flames burst up into my face, like some sort of action movie. Scary as hell!!
