For anyone into 3D animation/modeling, be sure to check this out...
Elephants Dream
It's proof positive of the wonders of open source/free software. No Maya, no Photoshop, etc. This CG movie was created primarily with an astounding program called Blender. Blender got a group of artists and animators together to create a movie that showed off what the program can do.
Did I mention that they also released the source files for the movie?
