Its a differnet world over there right down to measuring distances (How far to your work or school), how much you can carry (About how many Kg does a back pack weight?), and deciding what to wear out (the weather man says its 30^ celcius with a high of 38. Do you bring a jacket or wear shorts?).

If you couldnt answer any of those questions off of the top of your head, then it would help you to learn a few things about the metric system. Check out sites like The Metric System.info to get yourself an idea of how to communicate concepts like distance, weight, mass, volume, tempurature and the like to your fellow peoples. I spent some amount of time learning the metric system when I was in high school if for no other reason the rest of the world operates on it.

I'm in the military and everything we do is on the metric system. It really is a handy thing to know. I really believe life would be easier if we were on the metric system. I suck at math and multiplying by 10 is much easier than multiplying by 12!

yeah the metric system is allot better than the english system...I mean the English don't use the english system anymore Rolling Eyes

though I do think that the fahrenheit system is better than the celsius. Its a wider system so you can get a more accurate feel for it. thats just my oppinion though lol

Kelvin temperature fo' eva!!!

Seriously, learning things like this is almost as important as learning the language. These are the measurements for the physical world around you, so its good to be able to accurate describe scale and mass, and to think in those measurements as well.

But isn't Absolute Zero measured in celsius? I'm gonna wiki that. XD!

ROFL. Oh god, some moron got to the page before I did...

Wikipedia's entry on Absolute Zero wrote:

Absolute zero is the i love pilgrims and fat mommas point on the heat that can be removed from the system. According to classical physics this temperature would correspond to zero kinetic energy of the particles of the system, in the reference frame of the system's center of mass; this, however, is now known to be false—quantum mechanics explains why the energy of a system can never drop below its zero-point energy.

WAH. I'll check back later, maybe somebody would have fixed it by then >.>

on a side note, I like metric better than the American system >.<

Absolute zero is the point where all motion stops. It can be measured in any system. In farenheit it's -459.67 °F and -273.15 °C in celsius. It is the base for Kelvin, being zero in that system.

Ah. (and the wikipedia entry is already fixed o__O dang they're fast.)

For some reason I thought the measurements were in celsius. But then again, I'm not "smart". XD

so anyway. Measuring by Kelvin sounds like a winner Very Happy

Good point^.^
The thing is, personally, I don't really pay much attention to the american system either. I mean... know how much Time it takes me to get from athens to atlanta and I know how I feel like dressing when I step outside to see what the weather is like. Im not a person who is very into numbers. But I get the idea that the metric system does make more sense^.^
I guess if you're very into measuring things and knowing exact measurements and such then this ispretty important Still...Im glad Im not partial to either one...it'll make things easier for me when I travel.
^.^

I must be the odd ball. I like for all my systems to be mixed. I like pressures in PSI, sizes in metric, weight pounds for food and people and cars, mass for everything else , temperatures F for cooking and weither, C for everything else, distances in MILES. oh and volumes in gallons.

And FYI the English still use the English system as well as metric. It's funny their roads and stuff are miles, while you buy gas in Liters... hehe

It's metric system here in Malaysia too - celcius, kg, km, cm etc.. and I suck at maths too so when ever reaper told me the temperature there (in farenheit) he have to convert it to celcius so I understand how cold or hot it is there Razz or from miles to km.. geez I just dont like maths.. Rolling Eyes
