"Sony has released a new PSP firmware version 2.81, which corrected a number of flaws in the 2.8.0, such as security holes and support for Memory Stick Pro Duo over 4GB."
Now I'm going to say this. Not being a PSP owner...this is F-ing ridiculous. Updating to giev me newer and better features is one thing. Fixing problems that you set upon me is another. And I thought PC game patching was bad. What's this...like the 8th friggin "upgrade"?
Sorry, the PSP is looking more and more like a broken window with shiny new tape over the cracks. |

A lot of the updates have to making it so exploits don't work to run unsigned code. Right now the GTA trick works on firmware up to i think 2.6 or 2.7 |

The upgrades aren't a problem since they automatically install when you load a game with the upgrade, but your system has to have almost a full charge, and it won't work if you use the AC adaptor. I had to wait about 3 hours to play Armored Core after i got it because of that. But I've decided to sell mine. It's not as "portable" as the name suggests. |

Same here... takes 10 minutes at most... usually much less. Depends on my connection at the time.
I love mine. Seriously. But I really wish Sony would just embrace the homebrew scene, but alas, pirating is what they're looking to prevent. They've been completely unsuccessful so far.
On the other hand, they have added some really nice features... namely the internet browser and RSS support. Okay, okay... so the "location free" feature is just garbage. Nice concept, but worthless. Who HAS one of those things anyway? |

yeah, piracy is the problem. I the home brew scene for the PSP is rather awsome though. Theres a lot for it even a new GUI and such |

Those are egregious security flaws that could spell the demise of the PSP as we know it! Yuss! We're not just racing to keep up with the people who pirate games![/sarcasm]
I figure the security updates wouldn't be so necessary if it weren't for the people that aren't content with just "homebrew" code, but have to go whole-hog and play pirated PSP games. I'm still trying to figure out how there are already UMD dumps of Lenneth available (and have been since a couple days after the release date) - that's just nuts. I still want to get that game...strangely enough, I restarted the original VP a couple days ago. |

Piracy can not be stopped because it starts at the lowest level. Most games are released by people that work for the companies releasing them or retail outlets. I'd guess that 90% of today's games/movies/etc are out way before any consumers know about them. Somebody I know had Chingy's CD, Luda's CD, Just Cause (PS2), and Lego Star Wars 2 (PS2) all 1-2 weeks before they hit the stores.
Not to mention complete perfect copies of See No Evil and Fsat and Furious: Tokyo Drift.
If you build it, they will come.
If you make it, they will upload it. |
