It's not so uncommon is it? I had a 486 catch on fire a few years ago.
OMG I feel old just saying 486. Those of you that know what that is will feel old too! Sad thing is it wasn't that long ago! |

Also, lightning does take out computers more often than you'd think. I had my computer friend twice within a week by lightning. |

I've lost 2 cable modems and 2 routers in the past 2 months due to lightning surges. |
