Cable television network names Elder Scrolls IV Game of the Year, invites vociferous game critic to appear on Attack of the Show.

If you're a gamer and you read the news, you are probably familiar with Jack Thompson. For years, the Miami-area lawyer has waged a crusade against "murder simulators" and "pixelantes," as he derisively calls games and gamers.
Thompson remindes pixelantes everywhere that they're damned for all eternity.
Thompson's myriad criticisms of the game industry have made him the subject of much media attention, and led to appearances on CNN and 60 Minutes. He has also gained notoriety amongst game journalists for his frequent mass-emails, which he often laces with biblical references and theories about covert law-firm machinations.
Soon, gamers will be able to see Thompson argue his case in a court (of sorts) run by gamers. The G4 cable television network has announced that the fiery attorney will appear on tonight's episode of Attack of the Show, which airs at 7pm EDT/PDT on G4. Those on the West Coast with access to the channel's East Coast feed can watch the program at 4pm PDT.
Thompson will face off against X-Play Adam Sessler and GameDaily CEO Mark Friedler on the topic of violent games. Specifically, they will address Rockstar Games' announcement that its controversial title Bully will be released this October, despite Thompson's calls that it be banned.
"Not bad for someone who, according to bloggers at Game Politics and elsewhere, has nothing relevant to say in the culture war battle over violent games," Thompson boasted in a series of rapid-fire e-mails sent to journalists. "Oh, and so much for the patent lie that I am afraid to confront my critics. I've confronted more critics than Northern Israel has confronted Hezbollah missiles."
Thompson also used the e-mail to take a potshot at the head of the Entertainment Software Association game-industry lobby organization. "[ESA President] Doug Lowenstein, of course, will be nowhere is (sic) sight. Reason: Cowardice."
In other G4 news, the network has announced the winners of its G-phoria Awards for excellence in gaming. Selected by G4 viewers, the awards were once the subject of a glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles, but were scaled down to a lower-key televised event this year. The G-phoria winners--which are selected on only one platform--are as follows:

Haha Thompson may be a otugh nut, but I wonder how he will fare against the force of pure cynisism that is Adam Sessler. If anyone has seen how merciless he can be, then it shall surely be a clash of verbal titans.
Also on his Isreal comment.....bad form Jack....bad form |

A) This is a BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD Idea on the part of G4
B) Adam Sessler is about as half witted as Jack Thompson. Although I suppose thats not fair, I will say his credibility is shot. I refuse to watch G4 on the grounds that I see it no more a service to gaming culture than a bunch of teens in their basement filming biased reviews.
Of course I'm a very opinionated person |

Thanks Shuri, I saw the advertisement but didnt get a chance to catch tonights episode.
I tend to agree with you UW, but considering their options I think Adam was just as qualified, if not morsoe, than anyone else on G4 to debate Jack. However thats not saying much, considering I could name off about a dozen people on these boards alone that could pwn that nutbag in a straight debate on video game violence. |

Thanks for posting the link, Shuri =D I am slightly disappointed that Yak didn't look as crazy as he normally does. X)! but ever so happy that he couldn't make a solid point. |

I watched it and agree he's a halfwit. I expected more from him in being eloquent and dellivering smarmy zingers with a smile.
I'm not a Jack Thompson sympathizer as I am sure he wanted to remain as calm and collected via this interview more than any other. He has some valid points, believe it or not, but his target is fixated on the wrong spot. I've seen people who can delve themselves so much into fantasy works (books, games, tv, movies) that they lose sight of the real world. These people have addictive personalities. I've also seen where they have developed this behavior and most the time it's parents who plunk their kids down, without any scrutiny or supervision, to play or watch these things. Being subjected to this stuff on much of an occassion can desensitize someone to the acts, that is true. But for it to be the fuel behind the fire? I think not.
Ultimately it's on the parents heads to figure out what they are going to let their children play. I think we'll come to a shift of this as more and more parents nowadays grew up with this media pooflinging against video games and will choose to walk the walk to prove the point rather than spout off at the piehole and do nothing.
Kevin P - worst. mediator. ever.
It's easy to come off omnipotent when your agenda is seeping out of your skin.
I dare say it for the influx of unpopularity but kudos to Jack for staying collected. Jeers to Adam for bucking at the gate like a crazed bull. And bless Mark for having the sense to remain poised and diplomatic but having the BEST points made during that whole blather of a so-called 'debate".
C'mon G4. Give us more than 5 minutes to sop up the juiciness rather than cluster-f*** the airwaves with people constantly cutting each other off. |
