"Sony announced the price of various PlayStation 3 accessories:

* Wireless Controller (Sixaxis) - 5000 yen, available on Nov 11, 2006. Can be used wirelessly (Bluetooth) or wired using USB cable; built-in Lithium-ions battery can run for 30 hours
* Memory Card Adapter - 1500 yen, available on Nov 11, 2006. Allows you to transfer PSone and PS2 save data into PS3 via USB connection
* BD Remote Control - 3600 yen, available on Dec 7, 2006. For BluRay and DVD movies playback, uses Bluetooth connection."

And at $60+ per game a correct gaming package is definitely going to reach the $1000 mark. Think about that, a thousand dollars to have a simple starter's library.

No thank you.

the prices really aren't that bad on these.

Memory Card Adaptor for $15 is fine.
Controller for $50...

Well the 360 one is $50 as well. Difference... the PS3 one is rechargable out of the box.

I don't mind the accessory prices on the PS3 so far. Just the price of the System.

And $60 a game...

Well it's only since the Saturn that we started paying $50 a game again. SNES games went for $60 sometimes.
Almost all N64 games were more than $60.

There's too much stink being raised over the price of the games. I understand why the 360 and PS3 games are more, and I understand why the Wii games are less.

I'm fine with it.
But the system... give me the 60G version for $500, and I might buy it.

I broke the $60 (domestic) game barrier with Streetfighter SCE and Tecmo Super Bowl, both for the Genesis. Both games were over $70 each. I saw Phantasy Star III reach $100+ in store.

I can understand games costing more nowadays but not on a blanket policy level. If the PS3 were NOT Blu-Ray then how much would it cost? What possible reason is it running Blu-Ray in a gaming system? Is there anyone here who can honestly tell me that Capcom needs 8000 bazillion gigs to make the next VS game?

There will be NO games released in the first two years of the system's life that require even half of a Blu-Ray disc. They will co0me out tho. They'll have 15 gig dummy files to make them look like they're "worth the money" but none will require it. Why not put in 10 gigs of programmed AI paths instead? This year's Madden is a 2+ gig game, it doesn't even fill half of a dvd. GT4 fit on a dual layer and that clearly has to be the most graphically intense game on the PS2. All the Blu-Ray will do is promote the return to sloppy (as opposed to efficient) programming. I don't want to start a "back in the day..." rant but the games on the Atari 2600 thru to the NES were made on one sheet of paper compared to the PS2's notebook. Now we get the PS3's library of space. When Sega went to CD games they loaded 'em up with FMV and STILL couldn't fill the 700mb. Eternal Champions CD was reported to be the only game that even came close to filling a CD and that game had tons of video. And remember, back then it looked good.

Gaming will hit the wall and I am predicting another version of The Atari Crash, folks. I'm sorry but $1000 is just not an impulse buy figure. Believe it or not there are people who make less than that in a month and have families to support. Now I love games but it's that love that also makes me put this in perspective. I see myself having more fun with Master of Monsters on the Genesis than any strategy game on any later console. I enjoy the 16-bit Puyo Puyo more than I enjoy the newer versions. I can replay 8-bit games like Tunnel Runner, Jumpman, and Lode Runner happily while I totally ignore going back to my "faves" like Twisted Metal Black and Monster Rancher. You don't need to use every bit of technology just because you can.

I hope gaming comes back to programming someday. I really do.

As usual, I'm with you for the most part Razer.

However, from what I remember... isn't there a 360 game that is already running into the 2 - 3 DVD area that is in development right now? An RPG? HD takes more room. The PS2 version of GT4 was HD... true... but it also pretty much took up the whole DVD. Now think about a game that is ALWAYS in HD, since GT4 switched between 1080i and 480p.

Personally, it's not the space that I think is promoting sloppy programming, it's the speed of the processors in these machines. They are so fast, redundant code no longer matters. And they all have so much ram, that management of memory matters less too. I'm not too worried though. As long as the good games keep flowing, I'm all for the Blu-ray in a game system. Having a Disc with 50G of space gives you a lot of flexibility to put new dimension in the environments and things like that.

For instance... take a look at one of the first gen PS3 RPGs... Level 5's White Knight. Look at the backgrounds.
Now go look at some of the envirionments of Enchanted Arms. I'm sure Enchanted Arms is a good game, but the environments are bland and lifeless compared to what we have seen with White Knight so far.

Also, I don't think the disc format itself has much to do with the cost. I remember seeing a news article that said that BD discs are only like $.10 more than DVDs to press.

I don't think this is a bad thing. And I have a feeling that, to start out with, PS3 and 360 will be on mostly the same playing field. But give developers a year or two to figure out how to use the cell properly and watch how much actually goes on those Blu-ray discs. I think the PS3 will then be pulling away from the 360 as far as quality goes.

Doesn't mean I'm going to pay $600 for it though.

Either way though... Nintendo Wins this generation!

And here is the official mem card adaptor. I don't like the look of it tho. I can't understand why you wouldn't have a connected "block" type device like any card reader instead of a "controller extension cord". I'm sure the PS3 doesn't have ports all over the front like the PS2 but maybe from the back or something. I can see this thing flopping aimlessly about and becoming a hazrd unto itself.

Yeah I'm with ya on that.

I'm still going to get a PS3... just not until the price goes down.

Unless... *plots*
I do have a Sony card. I could always use my Sony points to get a PS3! Smile I'm sure I have close to that much.

Edit: Yup... I have 49K Sony points which is good for close to $500.
Still probably won't get it until the price drops though.

ok, I'll admit, if I had $500 in Sony points/credit the PS3 would become a much more viable idea. I'll wait until the $400 price point (highly unlikely within it's first 2 years of life) OR some kind of promo deal that makes it roughly equal to that (ie. free games, accessories, etc).

Until then it's "Wheeeee!"
