Speaking to an Australian newspaper, the managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia criticizes the pricing structure of the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
My only question for this Christmas on Wii is the price point. Even though it's affordable, I'm guessing you need to spend about [$370 US] to take home a Wii and enjoy it."

Speaking to The Age, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia managing director Michael Ephraim slams the pricing structure of Nintendo and Microsoft for their respective next-gen consoles.
Describing Nintendo's Wii as "a bit pricey," Ephraim theorizes that gamers would need to spend over $350 US to "take home a Wii and enjoy it." Ephraim explains that Sony has "great respect for" Nintendo's long-term strategy, but that "for this Christmas, I think that price point is still not family entertainment."
Though he said that Microsoft has done "fairly well" with its next-gen console, Ephraim also criticizes the Xbox 360's price, calling it a "pricey" and "a big investment for family entertainment."
Ephraim also criticizes Microsoft's "narrow" selection of Xbox 360 games, saying that they "appeal only to a very core group." Ephraim still feels that the PS2 will be the overwhelming choice this Christmas, given the unit's price and standing among casual gamers.
So let me get this straight...Buying a Wii or XB 360 will cost too much as opposed to buying a PS2. So why isn't he comparing them to a PS3, which will be out this Christmas also? |

Probably because Sony and their fanboys think that the X360 and Wii are only technically comparable to the PS2. |

Simple... b/c in Australia, the PS3 WILL NOT be out this Christmas.
Only NA and Japan are getting the PS3 before Christmas.
Marketing ploy to try to win the holiday down under. |

Nintendo can't...By next X-mas the Wii Light will be out.
It's the same as the Wii but with glowing trim and a handle.

I don't consider $350 USD to be too pricey for Christmas. The Wii is designed to be shared with the whole family and I think that if that were the only "big" present for the kids, you'd still have an affordable and awesome Christmas. Maybe $350 is more in Australia than it is here in Portland. |
