Ok now i'm not sure if it's been dicussed on much so here's the skinny. After Bully had been slapped with the T rating, you know our famous nutjob took it upon himself to go against it. He made the case that the game should be prohibited from sale and whatnot.

The judge then asked Take Two to send a guy over with the game so he could see for himself.

After playing it, the judge decreed that there was nothing so violent about the game that it should be prohibited. There my friends is the absolute proof...

Common sense is not yet dead in this world. HOOAH!!

This resulted in quite a lot of bad juju for mister Jack..

Quote:
At 1:51, Niero called, saying that the judge will not prohibit the the sale of Bully. In the time that he played the game, the judge said that he did not see anything so violent that would require the game to be held from being shipped. The judge and Take Two employee used a cheat code in order to skip around in the game.

According to Niero, the courthouse got pretty heated, and at one point, the judge had to ask Mr. Thompson to sit down. Also, Mr. Thompson silenced his “expert witness” when he was going to say something.

That judge should be given a medal. I would have loved to have been in that courtroom when the judge announced his decision.

What's retarded is these people don't flip out about other things, like the TV shows now and days. I was watching CSI with my wife the other night, and it shows a dead woman from the back, and the whole back half of her head was blown off, brains and chips of skull pouring out. This is frickin TV people, not an R rated film. And they're complaining about a video game being violent?

BAH! The judge just wanted a free copy of the game for his kids to play. I think that judge should be removed from the bench for accepting a bribe!!!!

Thing is though, these ratings are reccomendations right? and you believe its upto the parent to be responsible and NOT by their seven year old a game involving violence. While Jack Thompsons methods are completely out of order, there is a slight point there, look at how games are in Britain, smoe get classified with a BBFC 15 some with a BBFC 18, meaning that no one under that age can legally purchase the game or film (films also have U for Universal, PG for Parental Guidance and 12 for 12 and over, oh and R18 which is limited to erm porn).

This wouldnt affect anybody in the age group that the game is aimed at, and quite frankly, not many people do miss out on GTA anyway because their parents are willing to buy it for them, same with any game. The point is, these ratings make it so british law and media and everything else cannot point the finger at the entertainment industry, instead its pointed at those at fault, the parent or the retailler.

What would you rather have, the possibility of violent games being banned or some sort of legal classification system?

Thats the trick though, if it were up to people like Thompson we wouldn't even be seeing these games on the local market. They would keep getting tossed back again and again. You start with something that maybe deserves it, but then they cross the line further and further until games that hardly deserve critisism get targeted by people who complain for the sake of scapegoating.

I for one want the chance to see a game for myself and then decide, rather than be denied it outright.

Yay, judge! Suck it, Thompson! Not that this will actually deter him from anything.

I'm all open for free choice, my point is, some stuff is best to have some sort of legal classification.

But then, I suppose what you say is true, not trying to stereotype but some portions of Americans tend to blow things well out of proportion, Thompson being one of them.

And that's really the idea behind the whole thing.

I'm with Girkon. Thompson is a Douchebag. He tries to get games Banned altogether, like this Bully incendent in FL.

Even our films... While rated G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17... these are not government regulated. The only thing I do agree with aboutthis whole thing... is the ratings should be harder enforced.

When I was in the VG biz, I had a ... 10? ... year old kid come in and want to buy GTA3. I told him I cuoldn't sell it to him and he had to get one of his parents.

This usually gets to 1 of 2 responses... the semi responsible parent will thank me for telling him/her about the game and won't buy it... And the stupid ass parent that just wants to sit their kids in front of the TV so they can have some peace will get annoyed that you made them come inside to expain the game to them.

Some parents suck!
