Every town, city and even country has them.
And while using the Firefox Plugin "Stumble upon" I came across this site which some of I found quite funny (the story behind the Jersey Devil for example) and some fascinating like the "Mad Gasser of Matoon"
I'm not saying any of this stuff is true (or false) although I do have some beliefs in the paranormal and the unexplained.
What do you guys all think about these sorts of things? and do you have any stories to share? |

There are a few regarding the area that I live in in Connecticut, but they're not really well known. One of my new favorite paranormal stories for the USA, however, is the story of the Mothman from rural West Virginia. Here's the link to the story on the site that Riva listed:
http://www.prairieghosts.com/moth.html
Actually, that myth has been gaining in popularity. The recent movie (a few years ago), The Mothman Prophecies, was based on the Mothman myth. |

I like ghost stories, though I haven't any from around here, and I don't believe any. I suppose that's probably why I like them, though. If I believed in ghosts, I'd probably find them too creepy. |

My subdivision is built on Civil War Battlegrounds.
Anyone heard of Kolb Farm @the Kennesaw Battlefield? Although I don't think I've ever seen a ghost, my house does have its quirks when it comes to candles. |

Ah! I love the Mothman myth. Partly because I love moths so much, but yeah, the movie helped. Hehe.
Very interesting site. |

There's a couple of places around here (north of Dallas) that are supposedly haunted. Some are very false, but people believe them anyways; some I haven't bothered looking into. I'm now tempted to hunt one of them down, though. |

Ahhhhhh, Cryptozoology. I was kinda hoping that you might have stumbled onto a site that was an encyclopedia of mythology, kinda like this one, Encylopedia Mythica.
Mythology is a hobby of mine, and I love to find new sources. |

Living in New Orleans, it's hard not to believe in ghosts. We have picnics in cemetaries--death is just another part of life here.
The first European explorers arrived here in 1699, but the area was inhabited by Native Americans long before then. It's survived floods, cholera, yellow fever epidemics (23 between 1817 and 1860, with one in the summer of 1853 that killed over 8,000 people), malaria, the War of 1812 (in which Andrew Jackson enlisted the help of the pirates Pierre and Jean Lafitte to save the city), the Civil War, and just about anything you can think of. Not to mention hurricanes. Katrina left a lot of very confused spirits. Almost every building and/or neighborhood has its resident ghosts, most of which are peaceful.
A friend of mine grew up in an apartment in what used to be called Storyville (the legalized vice district that lasted from ca. 1900-1917. Most of it was torn down in the 1930s to build the Iberville Housing Project.), in the French Quarter. The building used to be a bordello, and the Madame (I believe her name was Josie) was the mistress of a wealthy businessman. She was deeply in love with him and wanted to marry him. The businessman, deciding to test her devotion, said that if she spent one winter night in normal clothing on the roof, he would marry her. She agreed. Sadly, though, with the combination of the temperature and the wind coming off the river, Josie froze to death. Her spirit still lives in the building, and she's always happy to have visitors.
My school has a couple ghosts of its own. There are two buildings that I know are haunted: the old library (which currently sits empty) and the administration building. There's a very good chance that the science building is haunted--and even if it's not, it's still a strange, creepy building. Even my dorm has got a ghost or two. The honors floor has actually been exorcised several times. Plus there's just the spiritual residue that the building has from being inhabited almost continuously for 40+ years.
Speaking of universities, a friend of mine goes to Eastern Illinois University, where the women's dorm is haunted. The ghosts of Pemberton Hall: http://www.prairieghosts.com/pemberton.html |

well i have some mythic stories from my days roaming around graveyards to confirm geneological info namely who died when, when i met and interacted with the ghost of one of my mother's mom's friends and she told us about where graves were as well as lifein the 1940's while the husbands were away in the war. she had cold skin and solid black eyes as her side of the grave was blank. she asked us to not take a picture but accidentally was in one...as a white orb with the same over her side of the grave when i shot it. we did not discover until later that she was dead and a ghost.
also i am followed by ghosts of my past pets. the most well noted is the ghost of Rumtum Tiger, my first black cat. when he died he was outside but as it happened his ghost came up and sat in my lap letting me pet him one last time. |
