Mr Kelly posted this the other day on bitparade's front page, its nice, but would you really want it in your front room? It's a little on the tacky side, and as Shino said, VERY pricey for something someone put together with some paint and superglue.

If you read the story that goes along with it - the guy has a long history of customizing small electronics and claims the case was air brushed in an 18 step process. Even tweaked the power settings a bit so it wouldnt sit and burn too hot, then switched the LEDs to an 'always on' mode so you always had that cool effect.

Also, the sword and shield did come from a soundtrack bundle, like Scrums said, but only 7000 were made, so chalk up like 6000 wound up under someon's counch with come cirty year old cheetoes, and thats a pretty rare item.

Well yeah its rare, I never said it wasn't but its a custom job. If some boy racer took an already rare car and modded it, adding all sorts of bolt on things to its exterior, its price would drop within the market place.

Hence this isn't worth the price being asked.

theres loads of unofficial customised Dreamcasts that aren;'t worth a penny over the original design, many of them have had just as much work put into them, hell my friends got a blue SEGA Saturn with a light in the little window on the lid to where you place the disc and lights surrounding the joypad ports, it looks cool but he actually paid less for that then he would of had to a plain old Saturn. While another friends white Japanese Saturn set him back around two to three times what he'd pay for a british Saturn.

Just because something is rare, it doesn't mean its worth a high price tag. You wouldn't pay $1200 for Angelina Jolie's toe nail clippings because "no one else has them" would you?

I'm not taking anything away from the job, all I'm saying is that this sort of thing has been done for years, and the only machines worth that kind of value are the limited edition official machines like all the official variants on the Dreamcast (e.g. theres a Hello Kitty one, a Seaman one and a Biohazard one, then theres the R7 and thats just scraping th surface.)

Yeah, they showed this guy on G4, and while it is pretty, I could never justify purchasing that.
