Some of you know I have a Sony Card that I have been a user of for quite a long time now.

Well, I'm also a member of the Best Buy Reward Zone. It has come to my knowledge that the Reward Zone has a credit card. And it's an actual Mastercard too. Earn points on everything and earn extra on best buy purchases.

For normal purchases...
Sony card... $1 for ever $100 spent
Reward Zone Card. $1 for every $50 spent... ($5 off coupon after $250).

Sony card... points (pretty much) don't expire
Reward Zone Card. Coupons expire after 120 days

So, where I could save more money with the reward zone card (I shop at best buy a lot), I couldn't build it up and use it all at once like I have done with the Sony card.

Now, here's the thought.
Many of you know I have a problem with spending $600 on a PS3.
I have 55125 points on my Sony card. That means I can basically buy a PS3, and send in a $550 rebate. Then, cancel this card and get a reward zone card.

Thoughts?

And what exactly do you plan to do with said PS3? I don't even see any games I'd even play on it. I might get the Blu-ray version of Fifth Element but thats all I've seen worth buying for it.

Wait for more games to come out, and a price drop. Well, wait for some games that are fully exclusive and worth playing. Motostorm looks good and the demo is popular at my store, but 1 game doesn't merit buying a new console to me.

Wait. Like you said, the points don't expire so you don't have to worry about it just yet. If you want to, get the Bestbuy Card now, start accumulating on that, and keep your Sony Card clean. I've heard rumors of them already thinking about shrinking the die size which is the first step towards a price cut. Ultimately it doesn't even matter though since it's basically free either way, and even if they do price cut the PS3 it might not be through the Sony Program thing y'know?

There isn't really a "program" for things like this. If the item isn't listed... then it's 100 points per dollar.

My vid camera was not on there, but I bought it and a bunch of accessories for it and it didnt' cost me a thing. Just sent in the list of items, the upcs (I think) and a redemption form... Bam... money back in my pocket.

Ah, In that case I would stand by my first idea to wait then.
No rush right now anyway, at least wait till another game or two that you want come out.

Personally, I would wait for the first hardware revision for this thing, I see nothing but problems in the PS3's future. Not enough ppl have them yet to start seeing the faults, but I cant understand how this monolith WONT overheat, it's all inside like JC Penny. The 360 has overheating problems and it has an EXTERNAL powersource with its OWN fan. Nintendo's never had a problem with overheating....oh yeah, they've always used an external adapter, except for the N64, and even that was mostly external. I would hate to blow free points on something that may or may not hold up. I might get a PS3 it all depends on which HD format Star Wars is released on. I would wait, but then again, I hope Sony fails.

From what I've heard and seen, the ps3 is having a MUCH better initial track record than the 360.

Even with the lack of sales right now, it still had a better launch than the 360. And I remember problems popping up all over with the 360. Haven't heard much about the ps3 so far.

I honestly can't see the PS3 having as many overheat problems as the 360. I just got everything situated in my new entertainment center... and I have to leave the door open for that thing. Mainly I'm just afraid to close it while that thing is running. The heat coming off that thing is ridiculous. I could leave that thing on all day and it would heat my freakin house!

So... after this new news about the backwards combatibility, does anyone want to change their verdict.

I'll tell you one thing... it's making me want to go out and get one just incase they do the same thing in America.

And just to update... I now have 62000 points. Must have been updated since the last time I looked.

This means I would get it for free.
