If there already is a thread about this movie, then please feel free to delete this one!!

But man... I saw it yesterday morning and I absolutely loved it. I can understand why it was nominated for 6 academy awards. The atmosphere was awesome (albeit quite morbid at times), the visual effects and creatures were really neat, and... ahh!! I just liked everything! Also, even if you don't like reading subtitles (the whole movie's in spanish), they did them very well for this film by putting them in a smaller area in the bottom middle of the screen (so your eyes don't have to travel completely across the screen...)

However, and.. this might be considered a spoiler so!!

*POTENTIAL SPOILER... no wait, DEFINITE SPOILER*

this is not a movie you want to see if you have problems with gore...though it's not THAT bad compared to many other movies.. i know that i absolutely can't stand gore/torture... and so some parts of the movie were hard for me to handle. others would have no problem, though. and also, it is not a happy movie (really.) so don't go expecting a fairy tale! (or actually, it's okay if you go expecting a fairy tale.. but go expecting something that's similar to the old ones that perhaps.. Hans Christaan Anderson wrote. lol)

*END*

But yes, I would definitely recommend this movie!! I want to see it again :)

this was quite an amazing film. I was pretty impressed with it. I didn't really expect the amount of carnage that I saw in the film but it was handled pretty well I think.

It's quite a fantastic film and a must see for anyone who is more grimm with their fairytales than any. The costuming was phenomenal and the creatures were just fantastic.

I wanted to see this in theatres SO BAD. I won't be able to, though ;_; The closest theatre that plays it is St Louis. Why do Americans (in general) have such an aversion to subtitles? >.>

Scrum: The same reason they have aversions to books - they hate reading. Wink

I liked the movie, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a must-see movie. Mostly because a large part of it was watching a certain character go about his business with detachment - while there was much implied gore and brutality, it was all basically telegraphed in advance.

I, personally, would have liked to see more of the storybook tale, but that's me.

Silver-- that's not true. I love reading. I do, however, hate subtitles. I'm of the variety of person that just cannot concentrate on reading subtitles and enjoying the movie at the same time...despite my general multi-tasking skillz.

It does look like an interesting movie, but with the fact that it's A) subtitled and B) in Spanish (I'm sorry, but I truly do hate the language, nothing against Spanish people) it's just not happening.

I tease, I tease. Perhaps my eyes are fairly well-trained from the many series of anime I've watched in subs, or that I occasionally put on the captioning when it comes to domestic movies, but subtitles don't bother me, so long as they're well-timed. The cadence of the language being spoken then adds on the right effect for me to put it all together.

There's a lot of implied brutality, as well as the explicit stuff, in that movie. Definitely not one to see if you want something bouncy and upbeat.

I kind of wanted to see this, but for some reason I haven't been able to get myself to the movie theater to see anything. I must admit, I didn't even know that this was subtitled...or in SPANISH, which comes as kind of a surprise to me. The fact that it's in Spanish might make me want to see it more, actually. Although I'm betting right now that I'm going to go in expecting bad Telemundo dubbing Spanish or bad soap opera Spanish and be pleasantly surprised.

The movie was a surprise to me. I didn't know it was subtitled...which actually would have made me not want to go see it. Although some would prolly shoot me for saying this, I prefer dubbed anything over having to read subtitles....for the same reason as Legend. I have a terrible time with anime that way.

But, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I've had 4 total years of Spanish (2 in HS, 2 in College), and actually understood quite a bit of what they were saying without the subtitles getting in the way. They use traditional Spain-based Spanish like what you are taught in the schools, not the hybrids that you hear locally.

Sure, it had a ton of gore and violence, in some parts I wanted to smack the heroine myself for a few things that she did...that dress-that was just painful.

But overall, it was a very good movie. You are very involved in the story and root for the characters. Its a serious depiction of a fairy tale, I would advise leaving small children at home...its got the violence factor, and does involve some higher level of understanding....and reading is kinda a key thing.
