We went to see Happy Feet this past weekend...I'd say mixed reviews.

If you haven't seen it, don't read this!

Happy Feet just wasn't all that happy. I knew it was going to have some sort of a plot to it but it had such sad undertones to it. I mean, Mumble doesn't have a heart song...so they cast him out and think his dancing is just too bazzare. They dub him as a failure to his kind. He finally finds some friends who think he's cool..then go talk to the head guru who's really full of BS and is dying. Every time he goes back to his kind, he does something wrong and they kick him out again...not to mention all the other stuff where he gets captured.

I should prolly lay off the kid flicks for a while. This one was filled with the message to kids that "Its cool to be different", "It's wrong to cast someone out for not being like you"...and then the master one that's really false...Ecological conservation.

As my fiance said after it was over, "I've been Ferngully'ed"
The reality of humans actually returning a dancing penguin to the wild, then tracking him to all the rest...then stopping all their littering and fishing is just too much BS...kids are getting too much of a rosey outlook for that.

i personly enjoyed it :/ it had sad undertones, but its about redemption and change, people dont often embrace change and can be hurtful. but you cant tell the kids life sucks and then you die.

mostly though, i think its about singing and dancing and having a good time Smile

We want to take our toddler as shes gone mad for penguins at the moment (which is expensive seeing as every shop we go in has something penbguinny, not tha she always gets something though) but theres no showings in our area for little'uns.

Bit sill really as the clips amke it look like its more amied at toddlers - 7 year olds who struggle to sit still through a whole movie than an older child.

Well, its got someting everyone can enjoy, some of the humor is more adult orented (not bad, just more grown up), and the music and dance scenes should be enough to keep most children in awe.

I've heard some little kids are getting scared by some of the chase scenes. If you manage to get your little one there, make sure she's told beforehand that some parts are pretty scary but NO ONE DIES in this movie...or gets eaten, or really even gets hurt.

If she's on a big penguin thing, Build-a-Bear Workshop is offering Mumble the penguin for a limited time...something fun for her to make herself and fairly cheap if you tell her penguins don't wear clothes Wink

Bah, not got a Build-a-Bear round here.

Still no shwings in our area for little-uns, shes only 2 and a half so she wouldnt really understand us telling her about the scary bits.

That being said, she finds the shark chase bit in Finding Nemo hiliarious and laughs at stuff I'd expect to scare her when I forget to change channel when Whats New Scooby Doo? is on.

Build-A-Bear is also completely out of stock of those guys. My sister is a -huge- penguin buff (look into movies like "The Pebble and the Penguin" which she adored and is rated G for Rachael) and we tried to get the Mumbles plush for her, but everywhere's out and I was told by a store person they don't know if they're getting them back. Though, as a note, the website says they will.

ALSO-- I still very badly want to see this movie. It has Robin Williams in it, and I love him. XD I'm also moderately fond of Hugh Jackman and Elijah Wood, so, meh.

Yeah, we went to Build-a-Bear last night. No Mumbles but they did have a bunch of the predone Lovelace penguins. They were cute.

Running out of the Mumbles doesn't surprise me. Even if you don't know he's from the movie, he's just a really cute, fuzzy penguin baby. Who can resist that?

kill this movie! it is an ad for the UN and that nature will demand 'our help' when we over fish. "over fish" what a joke concept....i was lured to a supposedly funny movie but like ferngully, a childrens movie with environmental themes, but the whole environmentalist idea is flawed thus my "i was ferngullied" to fawkes
