No fair, we didn't get to play videogames in school.

According to a story from The New York Times entitled "P.E. Classes Turn to Video Game That Works Legs, over 1,500 school across America will be using Dance Dance Revolution as a tool in physical education classes by the end of 2010. The article states this move "is part of a general shift in physical education, with school districts de-emphasizing traditional sports in favor of less competitive activities."
West Virginia's Department of Education is one of the states leading the charge. Nearly all of their 185 middle schools are equipped with DDR, and they've committed having the game in all 765 of their schools by next year. Hawaii aims for all all their schools in the next three year, and the Los Angeles School District already have them in 40 schools.
Kids loosing weight, and parents down with videogames? Sounds like a win-win to us. |

Now that DDR's beyond being a fad, and has stuck around for a while, people are starting to listen to the benefits that it has for people.
The schools are slow in this regard - a lot of public libraries I know of are already hosting DDR events and tourneys. |

This is pretty cool. A smart move if you ask me.
The only thing is that the article said DDR was choice because it wasn't competitive...and that's not exactly true. X)! But I guess if you force all of the kids to play the same level/songs, then it's not so competitive.

There was an arcade on the radio a few years ago with an advertisement that said that DDR was the "hot new way" to lose weight. X)! |
