Nintendo gets Fonix hook-up
Fonix Middleware, better known as the enabler of coherent conversations and prepubescent, expletive-laden diatribes over Xbox Live, today announced it would be bringing its voice-recognition technology to the Wii as part of Nintendo's Third Party Tools program. The agreement will give game developers access to Fonix's VoiceIn Game Edition and VoiceIn Karaoke Edition. The two programs pave the way for voice commands and karaoke functionality to be implemented in Wii games. Fonix now counts all big-three console makers among its customers, and its VoiceIn technology will also be incorporated in Epic's Unreal Engine III.
So now I'll be able to annoy the world with "Flareon, I choose YOU!!!". Heh Heh |

From the sounds of things, adding voice to Wii sounds like this can only end in catastrophe.

Well I was wondering from the start if the mic isn't already in the Wiimote. Just because it's not been used doesn't mean it's not there. Nintendo held back all thrid parties from using the online code until Pokemon Rev (and mario Strikers overseas) so it's possible they put a "hush order" in effect about the mic.
Then there's also the possibilty of an add-on mic like the N64 had tho I pray against that. |

To be honest, I'd rather have a headset. This way I can still use the Wiimote as I please without needing to bring it to my mouth so I can speak to people. |

A headset probably will be released, along with some games that support it, somewhere along the line, XBox LIVE is huge now, but it didn't just happen over night |
