from The-Magicbox.com
- Variety Asia reported that the top three Japanese game publishers are redirecting their development resources from Sony and Microsoft platforms to Nintendo's. Bandai Namco will increase Nintendo platform development by 109% to 115 titles; Sega will increase support by 96% to 49 titles this year; and Capcom will increase 5% to 20 titles.
- Variety Asia mentioned that Nintendo expects to ship 26.8 million units of Wii, Nintendo DS and GameBoy Advance software in the 2007 financial year, comparing to only 23.3 million units of software for PS3/PS2/PSP platforms.
- UNCONFIRMED: In addition, Square Enix expressed that they do not plan to develop any more new titles for PlayStation 3 until the console install base rises to a profit making level.
- RUMOR: Sony will release a new "Waggle-Wall" bundle pack for PlayStation 2 in Christmas, for US$99, the Waggle-Wall is a Wii Remote type motion sensing controller, to compete with Wii. Sony has already registered the new controller for patent protection in December 2006.
A $100 add-on to emulate the Wii? I thought Sony didn't even take the Wii serious as competition.

No surprise with how well the Wii is doing.

You misunderstood this part I think.
First, it's Waggle-wand, from what I heard. Not sure why they are reporting Waggle-WALL. That doesn't make much sense.
Second, it's going to be a PS2 with this capability for $99.
They are dropping the price of the PS2 to $99 AND including this.
Smart move I think. The Wii's Graphics aren't that far ahead of the PS2... considering it's 2 GCs duct taped together. May as well throw the Motion sensing capability and give them more of a reason to bring Wii games out multiplatform. Sony sees the Wii as competition alright... to the PS2.
So yeah, the top Japanese devleopers are making more games for Wii, and now they can port those games to PS2.
So, I reask my question... Is the Wii good for the PS2?
If you are a developer, and you could make some adjustments to a game and bring it out on a system that has over 110 million units sold... wouldn't you.
If you were a consumer that didn't already have a Wii and/or and PS2, and you could get the same functionality and more for less than half the price, with just a small graphical sacrifice... wouldn't you.
Smart move for Sony if you ask me. |

oo, so the Wii might actually have some games released? well, probably not in Europe, Nintendo consoles are massively unsuported in Europe by all developers/publishers...
Seriously, September I believe for Paper Mario over here, we still havent got Trauma Central, Elebits only came out a month ago, stuff Nintendo, I might not own a Wii, but I'm really really sick and tired of them shafting Europe.
Microsoft are getting it right, we're gettign games the same day as you guys, or a week late at most, and we're getting Blue Dragon 4 days before its out on your side of the pond. |

Only if they don't release it in a special white limited edition. Then it'd look like desperation to me. |

Ok, but if I am reading this right, you are misunderstanding the point as well. What would be the point of porting a game to a PS2 if you would have to BUY the waggle-wand or wall or whatever it's called? If it's, like you said, a PS2 with that capability. On the other hand, if it's an upgrade to the current PS2 for $99 then, I still think it would be stupid because the price is too high, but it would make more sense to buy an upgrade than buy a new system. |

Aye me too
But anyways if I can't add this waggle-x feature to my current PS2 spending $99 on another ps2 is out of the question.
And for some reason I still see sony missing the boat on this one and it ending up like the eye toy |

Besides, consumers aren't as stupid as they appear, they know the Wii did this first, regardless of any patents Sony took out at any point in time, the point of the matter is Nintendo released the device first, they announced the control method well over a year ago now and Sony are desperate to try and get some of their flagging customer base back by any means nessacary.
Thats desperation on their part, they're trying to keep the PS2 alive because the PS3 is struggling so much and the PSP has been a technical failure (I recently bought one and like it but it doesn't have the mainstream appeal that Nintendo have managed with the DS, plus its still too expensive).
By doing this, Sony are only doing what SEGA tried to do with the Genesis/Mega Drive, by releasing bolt-ons to try and extend the systems life.
Whens the next big PS2 game out? Wasn't God of War supposed to be the final one? (Aside from Rogue Galaxy over here which isn't exactly a mainstream game).
Shino, sometimes your Sony bias blinds you, Sony don't just see the Wii as a rival to the PS2, its "stealing" the market they assumed they'd control this generation too, despite a lack of software.
As things stand though, The Ps3 is far too expensive and is hugely under supported, I read something the other day about SQUEENIX considering stopping development on future PS3 titles if the user base hasn't grown considerably by the time they release FFXIII, and lots of other companies have increased their Wii developments by figures of 50% and upwards.
Recently in Japan, Eternal Sonata outsold Ninja Gaiden on PS3, thats a huge coup for the 360.
So when you look at all of this, annd then look at Sony's actions, they're becoming increasingly desperate to even get some kind of foothold back on the market they've had control of since the mid 1990s. |

Also, if the Wagglethingy is incorporated into the PS2 then wouldn't it have to have some sort of backwards compatability just to work? I mean it would have to work with PS2/PS1 games that were never intended to sue it. That's just dumb considering the stage of life the PS2 is in. You're gonna get maybe one or two more real games so it's kinda like buying a trakball just to play Asteroids. |

I don't agree with Sony on this one. they're spreading too thin on the platform part, they have their next-gen system, they should be concentrating on support for PS3. IMHO, if they concentrate on milking the PS2, then they're kind of admitting that the PS3 isn't up to par. Concentrate on the games Sony!! I swear the hardware wars are the most idiotic thing. I've been playing Chrono Trigger more than any other game in the past few weeks. Seems like the soul of console gaming is near death (or at least with great storylines for RPGs). I still have to keep playing through Rogue Galaxy though, so I can't really speak for that, but as far as I'm concerned, there hasn't been a game released on ANY of the nextgen platforms that warranted a purchase. So far nothing can stand next to God of War II lol.
