For those who played the Japanese version and didn't download the US version b/c of that reason... download the US version. It's different.

I'm wondering what you guys thought. I liked the game before, but now, I like it even more.

In this version of the demo, you actually start out with the boss you fought in the JP demo (Large Bird-like creature). I thought they were just trying to make it easier for us dumb Americans... but I was wrong.

You actually fight 3 "boss" Folk in the demo. And that's just with Ellan. I haven't gone through with the guy yet which is a different world all together.
I'll try to do a short write up, but I'm good at getting winded... so sorry.

They explain the idea of Folk and Folklore. Folk are the creatures you fight throughout the normal areas of the game, then you steal their IDs and get to use them. I really like the ID capturing with the SIXAXIS. It's interesting and an intuitive use of the functionality. It's simplistic use of a gimmicky function that seems to be often overused (Lair from what we are hearing). Most importantly, it's doesn't interfere with the gameplay experience.

After fighting the two "mini" bosses which are also considered "folk" (by the terms I'm using, the "boss" of the JP demo would also be a "mini" boss), you get a "picture book." When you look at the book, it doesn't make much sense at first. There's text that's in the language of the game (presumably) and pictures of some of the folk you have captured. But when you get to the end of the demo with Ellan, you have to fight a "folklore" which is pretty much an abomination that needs to be destroyed (boss). Then it explains what the picturebook is for.

The pages in the book actually give you the strategy for defeating the folklore. I thought it was a cool idea. And fighting the folklore was pretty fun. It makes use of a combo strategy using the IDs you've collected to this point. For the demo, you use the IDs from the minibosses (including the bird-like boss from the JP demo which you start with).

I still need to try out the guys stage. But overall the game seems like a must buy for me! It's a unique venture into the Action RPG genre.

My only concern is that it was too easy. I just hope that the game gets more challenging as you progress.

I would suggest anyone with a PS3 download the demo and check it out.
