Hey all it's two weeks until my friend andrew and I are going to start converting over to the polyphasic sleep system. In a nut shell the REM stage in the 90min human sleep cycle is about 20min. This is the phase where we dream and it is also the most restorative part of sleep awell. I will be taking about a week to condition my body to fall into the restorative REM phase of the cycle faster so that I can get all of my needed sleep in about 6 20min naps during a 24hr sleep schedule. this will give me about 30 extra hrs a week give or take. I will be posting daily updates while i adjust to this.
if you all would like more info on this feel free to go to:

I thought it was 5-6 one hour long naps over a 24 hour period? Isn't 20 min a little short? |

no the length of the naps are right. though some people start with the longer naps and slowly shorten them as a less jarring way to adjust to the new sleep pattern. As you adjust to the cycle your body learn to fall into the REM state a lot faster. essentaly your just compressing the time it takes you to get there. |

well as far as my friend andreew and I have found not really. that is to say that you start having different food craveings but as far as we have found its normally cravings for food that is better for you and easier for your body to digest. eg. raw foods, fruits and veggies.
I am still reading everything that I can find on the subject so feel free to check out the link at the top of this thread.
also my adjustment to the system is only a week away so you all will get my first hand acount of it. I will do daily updates for the first two weeks and then I will be posting updates intermittenly.
Oooo I just can't wait. I may quickly run out of ways to fill up the extra 30hrs a week this will give me. |

Keep us up-to-date. I've heard of this being tried but mastering it is another story.

Well that I will be getting a lot of gaming but still 30hr is a lot of extra time to spend on just gaming.
my plan to use all of that time is to try and write a "to do" list of 200+ things to do so that I can keep busy during my adjustment period. cause from what i have read keeping yourself busy really helps in adjusting to the system.
on a side note my friend and have re-named this system depending on the optinion of the person
either the
anti-sleep system
or the
anti-sleep syndrom
in short we are giving ourselves ASS |

Well last night was my last night of normal sleep. I will be giving you all my first update at after my 4am nap early tomorrow morning. and then every 4:00 nap after that. this will allow me to give you all a least two updates per day for the first several days of adjustment. and will give me something to stay focused on.
[edit/addition]
well its 5:14am right now and I am starting to feel the sleep deprivation a little but I am still very much functioning normally albeit a little sluggishly. I still have yet to even get to sleep during one of my 30min nap phases yet but I have so far only been through three of them so my body is still just trying to cope with me running on no sleep. My next sleep phase is at 8:00am this morning and then every four hours after that. so my down time times are at 4, 8, and 12 in a repeating cycle. I think that I will start getting to sleep by my 4pm cycle today though I know that it will be awhile before my body learns to go nearly straight into the REM sleep. |

I think this is super interesting. I mean, Id never really heard of this before, and now I immediately know someone whose doing it, too convenient! Keep posting every few sleep cycles, I'm interested in this experiment. |
