While cool, this is actually terrible news. It means that now there is the potential for everyone and anyone to exclaim "w00t!" when something good happens, and I'm not sure I like that. I like the fact that I use a "word" that is (supposedly) not used by the rest of the general public, and this just takes away the specialness of it.
It's kind of like how no one cared about pirates until "Pirates of the Caribbean" came out, and now it's "cool" to like pirates. |

Lawl. Gekko, you could probably get a degree in anything at Berzerkley-- don't judge by them! ^_-
I wouldn't worry about it, really. People don't tend to accept changes to the language as easily as that. I don't run about saying 'aint' or 'yall', and I doubt anyone who already said it feels more justified doing so just because they're in the dictionary (actually, the people who say them the most probably don't -know- they're in the dictionary).
Also-- Pirates have always been cool. It's nice, as far as I'm concerned, to know that everyone else is now becoming aware of this fact. It used to be only California that cared about eating healthy and going Green, but now it's popular and that makes me glad, because even if it's a fad, every little bit helps. Besides, some changes may stick. It's all in how you look at it. <3 |

Yes, pirates have always been cool...as far as you and I are concerned. But I don't think it's nice at all to know that everyone else is becoming aware of it. "Geeks" (of any sort) only have so many things to hold onto to identify themselves. When it becomes trendy for all the hipsters and "popular kids" to wear clothes adorned with the Jolly Roger, some of that identity is lost.

This, however, is a completely different situation altogether because it's something that is clearly beneficial to the greater good. We'll all be better off as a result, whereas saying "w00t" will have no affect on us (physically) in the least...except to annoy. |
