Anyone got any advice on updating a resume. Mine is QUITE old, and I really want to update it and make it nice, but its been so long since Ive done it, I am at a loss on making it look nice and neat and have only required info on there. Mine right now has too much past stuff I think lol.

Check the library - they'll have some books on it, and they might be able to point you in the right direction for a free or low-cost course on getting yourself polished up again. |

Here's a tip.
KEEP IT 1 PAGE!
Crap... considering I just had to hire on 2 people... I can tell you, long resumes don't even get looked at. I had one guy send me a 6 page resume... SKIP!
Keep it short and sweet. Talk about the jobs you've had, the skills you used and be done with it. The employer doesn't want to know every detail of what you did at every job.
Put the most effort into either the most recent job, or the job that relates most to the one you're going for. The rest, just touch on. Use your space on the 1 page wisely. |

If you have anything aside from education experience that is older than 8 years, you may wanna just skip it.
And I dunno what you people would think, but mine is 2 pages. |

Mine is 1 page, but I don't include references on my actual resume. I used to have a "References available upon request" section, but I've since removed it.
From everything that I've read, 2 page resumes are perfectly acceptable. You just don't want to go over that...the idea, of course, to be concise.
On a somewhat related note...if I don't start getting some serious prospects for a new job (which I've been looking for) soon, I think I'm going to set up an appointment with a resume professional and have them completely rework my resume for me. |
