Dloe can give you a better rundown of why we don't really reccomend this movie. But it came to be a bit of a disappointment in my book.

For one, I never heard/noticed from any of the trailers that the whole movie is CGed to where you can't really tell who the real actors are from the fake...

The CG in general was good, but annoying that they didn't just use real actors....a snide comment can be made that all the budget went toward paying Angelina Jolie's salary.

But the main thing with the movie that was such a disappointment is that they did not stick to the actual story of Beowulf. The movie went fine until the battle with Grendle, then completely strayed for the actual book. Though I've seen many books turned into movies and seen how they stray from the books, this was an extreme case.

I believe Dloe put it pretty well in that they took all the essential character of the book and rewrote the whole story to fit their needs and convenience.

I would simply say that if you know the story of Beowulf, you may be disappointed. If you don't know the story, it makes for a mediocre film.

I vaguely know the story of Beowulf from only getting about halfway through the story a while back (something I would eventually like to finish, might I add), and I was excited when I heard about this. But once the trailers started up, I got really disappointed because it looked as if it was going to be extremely overdone, so I'm not really surprised at your review Fawkes. The worst thing for me was that corny line they added (according to the trailers anyway) where Beowulf does his impression of King Leonidas (poorly) and proclaims, "I! AM! BEOWULF!"

Also, I can't stand that no one seems to be able to make movies anymore unless they pollute them with way too much CGI, another thing that is strikingly evident just from watching the trailer.

As much of a fan as I am of epic poetry like this and of stories of vikings and warriors, etc....I don't think I'll be spending my money to see this.

Speaking of King Leonidas...in 2005 there was another version of Beowulf made into a movie starring Gerard Butler as Beowulf. You can check it out on IMDB. I think I'm going to go watch this one first, because it looks like it's MUCH better.

*shrugs* I know it won't be anything like the story. The story is like two pages long. Making a movie out of it -requires- adding in some stuff. Uh, so what? Do you -really- want to see yet -another- Beowulf movie that follows along exactly and tells -exactly- the same story? Probably not. This isn't like Harry Potter, where it's A) the first time it's ever been done and B) a huge cult following and C) enough material to make a movie out of without stretching things to ridiculous proportions. This is Beowulf.

I think the CG is awesome and pretty and shiny. I think Angelina Jolie is insanely hot. I will most likely love the movie. XD So yeah, I am definitely going to go see it.

Well, if you've read it, then you'll see what I mean.

After watching that movie I had to dip my glasses in bleach to remove any residual suck that was on them...

Actually...it's been a while, and I haven't read the whole thing (like I mentioned before) but isn't Beowulf a longer story than just his fight with Grendel and his Mom? Doesn't he fight other things also...like a dragon?
