Get it. Now.
For those of you who don't know about it, Bahamut Lagoon is an offset side project of Square, the bastard father of games such as Final Fantasy Tactics and Kartia.
It has your basic turn-based lovin, but with a little extra. There are spells that can be cast on the field. Almost any spell, actually. Along with the spells, there are environments that you interact with. Enemy standing on a treed area? Light it up! He'll burn a little over every turn.
When you actually get into combat, you'll be surprised. This game came out one year prior to FFVII, so the graphics are outstanding. The characters are no longer just sprites in battle, and they actually have attack/defend/spell/get attacked animations, as do the enemies.
Dragons, that's what this game's all about. You'll get six dragons, and plenty of members for each team with them. Abilities on the team are affected by the dragons elemental abilities, as well as other statistics. You can feed the dragons anything you want, and they will grow accordingly. The many variations of dragons alone are worth playing this game for.
And the storyline. I'm a little less than half way through, but let me tell you this: it's amazing. The world consists of lagoons, islands in the sky. Sauzer decided to claim all the skies and become emperor of all, and though he's evil, he is a respectable villain. He is trying to fulfill a prophecy involving the holy dragons (such as Bahamut) in order to bring a new era.
Pick this game up now. Or, if you don't know Japanese, get an emulator. You will be satisfied. |

That reminds me, there is a gay old man attracted to the main character. Probably one of the reasons it was never released in America. |
