YES, INITIAAAAAAAAAAALLLL D!!! Quite possibly the GREATEST anime ever. Full of intense mountain racing, comedy, and tragic love. Yet all are striving to be the best! Fujiwara Takumi, a young man delivering tofu for his father since middle school atop Akina, a treachorious mountain known for racing. Without Takumi realizing it he has mastered such precision techniques such as drifting, heel/toe, and extreme line control. Since he has been running up and down the mountain everymorning at 4 am he knows everything about the road and is now the fastest next to his father, Fujiwara Bunta. One day after school while he was at his work at an octane deployment facility (gas station) his elder at work asks him and takumis friend Itsuki if they would like to join him with his team going atop Mt. Akina. While on top a team called the Akagi REDSUNS shows up and offer a battle challenge.



Since the Akina Speed Stars are not nearly as skilled as the REDSUNS their leader Iketani Kouichiro feels hopless but does not want to lose. His Boss at the gas station told him a rumor about the fastest downhill machine being an 86 , a Sprinter trueno gt apex hatchback,which was made in 1986 and the year in the story being 1996, being driven by a tofu shop woner. Iketani hardly believes it but after the REDSUNS coming he sets out to find it. After a while he comes across it and sees Takumi, his peer at work and finds out its his house. Iketani confronts Bunta and begs him to show him how to take Akin better. Bunta refuses saying that driving technique cannot be improved in 2 or 3 days, that you need to practice constantly and to think on your own. Iketani takes his advice to reality yet says he will be back. While Iketani was practicing on the downhill he found an on coming care in a hairpin and while the other car escaped un harmed , Iketani had crashed into a guardrail. Once again Iketani visits Bunta at the tofu shop now asking Bunta to replace Iketani iin the battle meeting on sunday. Bunta feels badly for him getting into an accident and comes up with a plan. He decides to send Takumi to race, but he is likely not going to except. Fate is starnge when Takumi asks Bunta to borrow the 86 on sunday to take a girl (Mogi Natsuki) to the beach. Bunta answers he can under one condition, He must got to Mt. Akina on saturday and beat Takahashi Keisuke in the downhill time attack. Bunta also tempts him with a free tank of gas. Takumi eventually decides to go and at the last minute he arrives. Iketani is shocked to see Takumi and askes where his father is. Takumi answers that his father told him to go beat an RX-7 on the downhill, Iketani is shocked and askes if he has ever been with his father on a delivery, Takumi says that he has been doing the runs all by himself for 5 years. Iketani finally understands and asks Takumi to battle Keisuke. Takahashi Keisuke is surprised to see someone so young, since keisuke lost to takumi while Takumi was on his way home from a delivery and has been obsessed with finding who he was. The battle begins and Takumi wins. Now starting his long journey of becoming a legendary racer..........

Yes! Another Initial D addict!

So far, I have bought both Tokyopop DVD's that have been released here in the US (watch it in Japanese!), a 5 disc box set with music from the anime series, and the import PS2 game Initial D Special Stage. I also play the arcade version (ver. 2) religiously at the arcade at my local mall. 3 cards so far!

Since Tokyopop isn't releasing the 3rd DVD here until January 2004, I plan on getting the entire series on HK DVD before then. I'm sorry, I can't wait that long.

This is one of the best anime I have seen in quite a while. The races, even though they're CG, are exciting to watch, and the music played during these scenes makes it so much better.

Dudes, you need to check out the CCG if you haven't already. You can drive and customize the 86, the Sil-80, the MR2, RX7 FD, RX7 FC, S13, the EvoIII, and even the 85! This game rocks!

How could you not say the GT-R (possibly the greatest car in existance, that is the R34 not, as in the anime, the R32).

Where Fujiwara Takumi, joins which Ryousuke, leader of the REDSUNS, and his younger brother Keisuke, and other character in the Initial D stage 1, 2 and 3 (movie). Possibly Sudou Kyouichi leader of the Emperors, maybe (my favorite) Takahashi Nakazato.

(And in case you didn't know, the japanese names have the second names first, so for example Fujiwara Takumi, is really (in English) Takumi Fujiwara).

hey man, A GT-R can be ANY GT-R, even the one from the 70's. in the anime the r32 was the latest R out there. I pretty much know what happens in fourth stage, project D (what does the D stand for? was asked in the manga lol) also yea but ano takahashi kyodai wa tensai da ze. Ke do ano baka fujiwara wa hanashite" nan da ke?" damae da, zen zen. soshite dori dori fan nari, hachi roku mine, Odishitashi mashite, stui haji mateze, INITIAAAAAAAAAAAL D! SUPA DRIFT TECHNKU WA DO? kakui des masyo neh!?

OK, after watching both US dvds and getting halfway thru the movie (damn this job thing!) I am totally sold. No, I was sold after watching the first dvd. I am SUPER TOTALLY sold!!! Got 5 car decks (including the evo) and have the next expansion already preordered (gotta love EBay). Now I just gotta find some keyed up people to play with. The guys here...uh...kinda suck.
So where's that damn Apprentice patch already???
