With the notable exception of State of Emergency (and even that gets props for originality), its may be that Rockstar doesnt know how to make a bad game. Case in point, Red Dead Revolver.

The game is divided into chapters where you as "Red" go on bounty hunts for old western style bad guys. You earn cash to unlock powerups you can buy, like weapons, upgrades, stages, characters, etc. You also are rated in each chapter "good" or "excellent" which can unlock further nifty items. The gameplay is fast and very original and Rockstar has handeled the controls almost perfectly - you draw, hide, shoot, change wepons, zoom in, fire, reload, and more all with masterful ease and fluidity once you master the controlls.

The way they have done duels is also something impressive, you pull back on the control stick to grab your gun, then forward to draw it however far. Right after that, time slows down and you have to pick your tragets all at once in according to a timing mechanism on severity of damage and a sort of speed, then all the bullets fly at once. You really just have to play it to get the idea.

But all of the rest of that aside, where this game shows is in style. The graphics themselves are just a cut better than GTA:VC graphics poly wise, but Rockstar has a flair for style that transforms the game entirly. The way they use lighting behind the hero in saloons or general stores, must in the air of a gun shop, or the rolling mist on the ground while the moon shine above an old water tower. All the thought and "wow cool" that you got out of GTA is here, and in high noon gun toting style.

I have it, it's fun, but I haven't been able to delve into it much due to the reawakening of my Diablo 2 addiction. That and Buy.com STILL hasn't shipped PSO 1&2 to me.
