Just saw it today.

First, and most important beef: The music. It was strong in the wrong places, and with the wrong instruments, and with the wrong sound. To put it simply, except for the singer, the soundtrack blows.

Secondary beefs: First and foremost among these trivialities was the director's seeming obsession with movie-star pretty boys. Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt especially. Now, in Mr. Pitt's defense, he played his character very well. Orlando seemed to do an ok job, too, but I just detest Orlando Bloom, period.

Next was the accents, which nearly every american-made movie fails to get right. In my humble opinion, lots more time needs to be spent making sure the actors can do the correct accent.

Third and finally, I don't ever want to see Brad Pitt in the "all-natural" again.

Now, aside from all that, it was extremely well done. The characters, for the most part, were interesting and well-developed; excessive research and detail was given to the constume design; and the fight between Hector of Troy and Achilles was brilliantly coreographed and friggen' awesome to watch. Helen once-of-Sparta-now-of-Troy was ohhh so bed-able, if you know what I mean(*wink wink nudge nudge*), and of course the battle scenes were great. It's interestingly done, because you have heros on both sides of the battlefield, as opposed to just one, as is customary. Those of you who see it will see what I mean.

All in all, well worth seeing in theaters, in spite of Brad Pitt's naked behind.

The biggest beef of all

WHAT THE HELL IS BRAD PITT DOING AS ACHILLIES.

Talk about not fitting the part.

He's in there just as eye candy so that the girls will go see it.

despite that fact, I still want to see the movie

I saw troy last wednesday. . . .

I hated this movie so hard, Me and my buddy walked out before it ended.

I don't really feel like getting into the specifics of what I hated so I will just say what I liked (much shorter)

The battle scenes were pretty good, the hector Achilles dual was also good. The chicks were hot, And that move Achilles did to the army's champion wascool. . .the first time I saw it.

Other than that I disliked pretty much everything else.
Don’t waste your money on it, Hell don’t waste the 3 hours of your life to even watch it.

to each their own, I liked it. Of course, I haven't read The Illiad either. Plus I'm a BP fan.

Demon angel

Coming from a purist standpoint of reading The Illiad, it was so bastardized that I couldn't really tell the source material that much. Case in point:

1. No gods. I can understand not wanting people sitting around in white togas throwing CGI thunderbolts, but there are other ways that the gods could have been done. Dreams, booming voices, oracles, all would have worked incredibly well. But no, strip away the mythic proportions why don't you.

2. Achilles. He's supposed to die pretty much right after killing Hector. Achilles desecrates Hector's body, and as punishment is killed by Paris's arrow into his heel. Achilles is not alive for the trojan horse, it's five years after his death!

Those are two of my main beefs with this movie

We are SO on the same page, Pot. If you're going to do the Illiad, which is arguably one of the greatest and best-known stories of all-time-period-end-of-discussion you've got to do it right! Be true to the story! It's been around a couple thousand years, there's probably some good stuff in there. Sheesh.
As far as I'm concerned Mr. Pitt and Mr. Bloom were put in there for eye-candy for the female half of the population. No girl that I know would have even THOUGHT of going to see it if it wasn't for those two, and every one I know who did wasn't that thrilled with the movie, but they loved the eye candy. And showing Brad's butt was a truly horrific experience for those of us who came to see the MOVIE. *shudder*
