OMG!!! My tactics RPG experience it limited to FFT and FFTA but I would have to say I am enjoying this game even more. I am only about 15 hours into the game so I can not review it completely, however I feel I will not be disapointed with the rest.
Graphics: Not the biggest selling point of the game but I am not one to pay much attention to the graphics. IMO the gameplay is where you get the fun. Don't get me wrong though, the Artwork and sprites are awesome and the script is stupendous.
Gameplay: As I was saying... I havent played a Rpg quite like this one. The battle system is very unique (as far as I know) you have a lot more freedom with you characters on and off the battlefield. The ability to "Purify" the monsters and enlist them to fight with you is something I have found VERY useful. The leveling system is basic rpg but most skills are learned from equipment. Certain pieces of Eq have skills/spells that you can use, once the skill/spell hits level 1 you can remove the eq and still have the skill/spell. Of course each character has its own individual skills that only they get.
Story: Very captivating. The dialogue is very humorus, I dont remember the last time I laughed at the dialogue of an RPG. There is is lot of Slapstick and crude humor. As I said I have not completed the game but as far as I have seen, the story just keeps getting better.
Replay Value: Um.... let me just put it this way. There are 3 different endings to all 12 chapters and I would be willing to bet there are at least 3 final endings if not more. I discovered last night that there are quite a few secrets that I have kinda ignored in the first 5 chapters that were blatantly right under my nose. Needless to say I will be going through this game a few more times.
Final note: This game rates about a 326,952 out of 10 on the Faye-O-Meter. Its definately a must buy for any fan of Tactical RPGs.
Dai is working on picking up Disgaea so when we each play through them, once we are going to switch off. I am just hoping Disgaea is as fun as La Pucelle.
PS Dai and I were discussing how many tactical rpgs there are. We came up with a pretty short list though. Let me know if you know of any others.
FFT
FFTA
Disgaea
La Pucelle
Tactics Ogre
