I hadn't even read H.G. Wells' book but the movie gave me the want to go and get it. 
The movie is done in a superb way, focusing on discovery and exploration, and the hero's goal. My favorite scenes have to be his actual time travels, where you see the entire earth shaping and morphing around him at accelerated speed; it's ungodly beautiful. You also gotta love his amazement when he ends up in the modern times city. 
To me, it's like an RL Evangelion type of thing. You gotta watch it several times to catch all the little details of the movie. There's just so much happening beyond the surface, it's amazing.

I suggest you to see the first version of the movie. I found the old version's ending better then the new version for some reason (that I won't tell otherwise I'll spoil the movie). You'll like it I'm sure! (even if it is vewy old <_<) |

I have one thing to say about that movie. One small thing. Something that, however, completely outlines my entire view of the film.
