DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in association with Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), will develop a live-action, motion picture based on the globally popular TRANSFORMERS franchise. Steven Spielberg will executive produce. The film is slated for release in the summer of 2006. Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Constantine"), Don Murphy ("The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and Tom DeSanto ("X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United") are attached to produce.

DreamWorks Head of Production Adam Goodman stated, "Steven and everyone at DreamWorks are very excited about the prospect of expanding the world of TRANSFORMERS into the live-action feature film arena. The possibilities for a thrilling action adventure are virtually endless, and a film holds the definite promise of expanding an already worldwide fan base to new audiences."

"This is a tremendous franchise that offers us the opportunity to create an inventive and thrilling action-adventure film," said Donald De Line, Vice Chairman, Motion Picture Group and President of Paramount Pictures. "We're happy to work with our colleagues at DreamWorks to develop this project with Hasbro. There couldn't be a better team to bring the TRANSFORMERS to the big screen."

"We are truly fortunate to have the best talent in the entertainment industry on board for the TRANSFORMERS movie and are excited at the opportunities this powerful collaboration will bring to the property," said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro's toys segment. "The TRANSFORMERS franchise has been successful in many entertainment arenas and we are thrilled to give millions of fans an extraordinary experience that's never been done in the history of the brand."

Hasbro will work with the production team, DreamWorks and Paramount on all aspects of the film's creative development, marketing, promotions and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film. Hasbro will also team up with Takara, who has been the co-developer of the TRANSFORMERS brand since its beginning in the early 1980s.

"The TRANSFORMERS brand has always struck a chord with fans around the world and remains one of our strongest franchises since it was introduced 20 years ago," said Keita Satoh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Takara. "Together with Hasbro, DreamWorks and Paramount, we will bring the property to a new level for fans in the Japanese market, as well as around the world." DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will distribute internationally.

In 1984, the TRANSFORMERS brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the ROBOTS IN DISGUISE, and quickly became a childhood rite of passage with a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and animated feature film. Twenty years later, a new generation of kids has discovered the excitement of the TRANSFORMERS brand and the legendary characters, such as OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON, that truly are "more than meets the eye." Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from Dreamwave Productions, which sold two million TRANSFORMERS comic books last year.

2006 is gonna kick ass!

Well lets just say I am not ganna hold my breath for this one. Don’t get me wrong I love the transformers, But I am skeptical about a live action movie being good. They better use the classic char's and not that gay armada shit.

Rev told me about this recently, and I'm curious to see how the hell they're gonna pull off LIVE ACTION for this one. Just seems like it doesn't fit...

NOTE! Steven Spieldburg is PRODUCING it NOT Directing it.

IE He's giving them money in hopes he'll get money back from everyone going to see it.

I say they just take the original Transformers movie and adapt it to real life.

I'm getting sick of every damn time they make a new Transformers series it flippin ends with the Auto-bots and Decepticons uniting to stop Unicron and Starscream always gets laid out. Even though that's what happens in the Movie, sort of but at least it happened THEN and not now...yeah.

So they have two ways to do this movie..Make the humans human and the Transformers computer generated OR rubber suits and Nerf (God I haven't seen a Nerf commercial in forever) balls.

So true. Although Nerf just isn't what it used to be...

Remember the Ballzooka or the Razorbeast? Or how about the Bow and Arrow that could easily knock someone's eye out?

I can tell you right now it's going to be based more off G1 one than Armada. Armada is over anyway. Energon (which is waaaaaaay better than Armada) is the current show. It's also not going to be exactly the same. It'll be revamped and made more realistic. Case in point, Megatron. He's not going to turn into a gun. Realistically that's just stupid. More than likely he'll be a tank. Realism is one of their main goals.

Demon angel

As long as this film has at least one scene of the decepticon gestalt (combiner) Devestator tearing up a major metropolitian area (should be Seattle really) and Prime and his Autobots having a hard time dealing with him, this movie will do fine

I think Murphy stated that aside from the whole matter-shifts and size changings in Transformers that the main reason that Megs' wouldn't be turnin into a gun was because Hasbro's not gonna sell "guns" to children(these days).
I'm lookin forward to this movie- mostly because I feel that Bumblebee HAS to be in it; 1.) almost every fan's listing of what Autobots/Decepts should be in the movie(as per Don Murphy's request) has Bumblebee in it, and 2.) Bumblebee rocks.

Anywho. From what I'm to understand there will be a toyline for the movie; and I'm hoping those are really nice. I hope "Spike" is in it! They can make him into an angsty, teenage-rocker. Or something. And since ALL MOVIES THESE DAYS HAVE A FRIKKIN LOVE THEME, I guess Carly can supply that : P .

Seriously, this movie sounds boss. Even if the movie "sucks", I'll like it. It's TF. I'm ultimately biased.
