Long rant about an icky little toenail

Well, I've had this stupid infected/ingrown toenail since about the beginning of September. Hurt a lot >< The doctor gave me pills and said it should clear up after the pills are gone. No such luck. A few weeks later, it's still really gross...So I went back today. My favorite doctor wasn't there (I have a feeling he's in Japan again...>< A nice 6 week holiday) but I saw another one. She didn't help me much last time I saw her, but oh well. She took a look at it, and agreed it was pretty gross, and if the pills didn't help, then there was really only one other solution. She'd have to remove half my toenail. >< So she took me into another room, where I wept like a baby as she shoved about 6 needles into my toe to freeze it. I layed there on the bed for a while, trying to regain my composure while she let my toe freeze up. I bombarded her with questions, and she assured me that she had done it a lot, and she was very good at it. The she proceeded to cut away at the nail. I could feel a bit of pressure down there, but no pain. I was pretty calm through that part. Go me! I really don't wanna see my toe though >< Then she wrapped it all up, and now I have this giant wrapped up toe.

I can't even put my sandal on. lol She said it looked cute. Then I hobbled outside to wait for dad.
How am I now (about half an hour after the ordeal)? I'm still white as a sheet, and shaky and wobbly. That'll pass...I know that's all from getting stuck with needles. Wouldn't matter what's in 'em, I hate needles. I always end up weak, and weepy. Also, my toe is starting to become unfrozen. It's tingly, like when your foot falls asleep...>< Driving me nuts!
Then I had to call work and tell them I'd be missing a few days because I can't wear my shoes >< Let alone sandals. It was very obvious that she wasn't happy.
Oh yes, apparently it'll take about 5 months before my toenail grows back to normal! Joy!^^;; About 4 weeks or so before it's healed up.
But yes, that was my morning!

hmm...you should talk to Ming...he just had an ingrown toenail removed...but the physicians really seemed to take a great deal of interest in the well being of his toe, and not just stick needles in and go snipping away.

Actually...I got 3 needles, to numb everything. They weren't so bad, except for the 3rd one, which made my skin feel like it was separating from whatever is under skin...and it hurt like hell. He then proceeded to cut away the portion of my nail that was ingrown, and basically pull it out of the nailbed, which I felt him do, but it didn't hurt because I couldn't feel anything down there. The he cleaned up everything, and gave me a perscription for antibiotics to kill the infection that had developed as a result of the ingrown toenail.

Everything was wll and good until about 4 hours later...when the numbness wore off...and I felt like someone had ripped my nail out of my toe. But it soon went away, and everything is peachy. Except for that fact that that portion of my nail will actually never grow back. But it has healed rather nicely since then, so it doen't even look that funny anymore...but it's a hell of a lot better than the pain that I was enduing with it being infected and all.

Thanks, Ming! It's nice to know whatcha went through, and have an idea of what to expect. It's now about an hour after the ordeal...I'm starting to think maybe I should take some pain killers before the numbness starts to wear off...lol
How long did it take before the exposed area began to heal and such?

My toe is now healing nicely, to inform you all, the pain is gone, it's great. Smile

But guess what...It's happening again...to my OTHER big toe. *pulls hair* It freaking hurts, and I'm terrified of having to get needles again...><

You know Keiji...it's ironic, because my toe was healing fine after I had it fixed, and yet today I found myself at the doctor again, because apparently I have the same thing, but on the OTHER side of the SAME toe. I don't know what the hell it is, but I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that I have psoriasis, and my podiatrist mentioned that having something to do with this whole thing. I'm not really worried about it because I know what it's going to be like, etc, etc...I'm just pissed because I have to go through all this AGAIN, and because they're gonna have to cut my nail even smaller than it already is because of the last procedure. But anyway...here's hoping. I have to call the podiatrist tomorrow and schedule an appointment...
