Anyone else pick this up? IN-FREAKIN'-SANE! Is all I have to say about it. I thought they wouldn't top Deadly Alliance, but this game is just PACKED with quality (I suggest the PS2 version over the Xbox version, played both, and the buttons are mapped better for the PS2) but I mean this game is GREATNESS, 2 fatalities per character plus when you lose if you put in your "Hari Kari" code before the victor puts in their Fatality code you kill yourself and take that pleasure away from the victor! HEHE! Oh yeah! Puzzle Kombat & Kombat Chess, OH YEAH! And it's ONLINE! (Broadband only, but it DOES support voice chat for both PS2 and Xbox!) I love this game, and I think I've found my new digital life-mate!
Oh yeah, almost forgot, also, LOTS of stage fatalities, some stages have MULTIPLE deathzones! WORD! |

They definitely did the job on this one but I was disappointed that after all of the "built from the ground up" stuff it's still...Mortal Kombat. Meaning simply that I thought by now they'd do away with the preloaded combos and heavy pauses between moves. It looked like they were going to take all of the good stuff from DoA and blend it with the old school MK but it left me a little wanting.
And the biggest two mishaps are no fire fatality for Scorpion (his fatalities actually suck) and no "Toasty!"
Still a Helluva good job overall if you're an MK fan. |

We obviously like games of a different difficulty level Razer, DOA IMHO is nothing more than pretty garbage, great visuals, but a combat system that lacks brains of any kind to win at, a consumate button mashing unfun fest
Yeah, I was bummed about the no "TOASTY!" in the game myself, but, they did throw in the "AGUA" clip when you knock someone into the Dead Pools stage fatality just like in MKII |

The biggest thing was they gave Scorpion Sub Zero's MK1 fatality, boo. |

Man, try DOA-U online and you're idea of how the combat in DOA works will be completely skewered. Some people online actually know how to play it correctly. It's very similar to rock papar scissors in a way.. Regardless, I've tried both DOA-U and MK: D, I've gotta say if you're playing offline don't bother with DOA-U.. but if you're playing online, DOA-U floors MK: D. You've got my word on that.
Mind you, I've bought DOA-U and plan to buy MK: D regardless, I'm unsure of wether I'll want to splurge on a network adapter for my PS2 though.. I wouldn't really use it for much outside of MK: D...
What's the layout like for the XBOX controller anyway? |

Hey, Selrahc, try http://gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/919922.html that should give you a lot of info and the buttons for Xbox aren't good....at all IMO, Black button is for throws, white is for something else, stage weapons if I recall correctly, and the game seems to respond a little more sluggishly on Xbox. Go for PS2, it's the better version.
Motts, if I wanted to play Rock Paper Scissors, I would play ROCK PAPER SCISSORS, but if I want to play a game where skill wins, I'll play MK:D. DOA in any form, just isn't very much fun to me. |

Man, practically every game is based off a simple childhood game. Mortal Kombat for example, is practically simon says. There's no freestyling combat like most games. Midway had less than twenty combos for everyone that are 'just this' and nothing else, when I first picked up the game, I was shocked to find out I couldn't slam a 'high punch' into my enemy until they smartened up and blocked, -that- was skill. Deception? Not so much. As far as DOA goes, the fact that's based on rock paper scissors doesn't neceessarily effect the entirety of the outcome, since it's "based" on it.
Everything needs a base on it, I'm just saying, try it online before you bash it. It kicks ass.
I might go out and pick up MK:D tonight by the by. For which console I'm unsure... |
