Trailer of the New
I don't know about you guys but no one could ever replace Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka for me. I don't really know if I will like this new style. I loved the old movie to bits this new one is supposed to be darker.
<_<
When I was a Kid I wanted to be just like Charlie. I tried my best not to be like the bad kids in the movie and heck I still never chew gum ^^. I don't know if this new movie will be the same way.

I loved that movie, but the first time I saw it I couldn't sleep for three days afterwards thinking there was an umpalompa in my closet. ^_^

I'm really not expecting the new one to compare but hey I could be wrong. The new Peter Pan movie was a pleasant surprise.

I gotta say I was super excited when I heard Tim Burton was doing Willy Wonka. This trailer just, well, ~sigh~, made me feel a little less enthused about it. Granted yes, Gene Wilder can never be topped, but it's all the same that Johnny Depp just doesn't feel like Willy Wonka after that trailer.

Anyhow, I'm still going to go see it because of my loyalties to Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, just now I don't think I will expect anything all too spectacular.

Damn my work computers lack of Quicktime.

I'm slowly learning to enjoy Johnny Depp...It helps that I learned he isn't Sean Penn.

But I liked the original choice for Willy Wonka, which was Jack Nicholson, because after seeing him as The Joker and in "As Good as it Gets" he played a reclusive genius writer type guy that was very paranoid. Crazy and paranoid are the two qualities that the original movie didn't grasp from the book as well as it could have.

Wonka shut off his factory due to internal idea smuggling and didn't trust anyone. In the movie he didn't have that paranoid feel. You knew he knew kids were going to get into trouble ut you didn't get that uneasy "Don't Trust Anyone" feel you did in the book, like he was testing them. Then at the end you found it was all a test.

While Depp did the Crazy Pirate thing well you realized that the reason he was crazy was because the Pirate he played developed that personality to throw his foes off-guard. It's kind of easier to play a fake crazy then a real one. While Edward Scissor-hands was a reclusive he also didn't speak much and was a goth...Soooo, eh.

It's a toss-up... Wish I could see the trailer and judge it fairly.

I love the old movie, but I also like when they redo and old movie and make it more in the now. Plus I LOVE JOhnny Depp and love to see him in any movie. But I'll definitely go see the new Willy Wonka just to see what kind of spin they put on it. But no doubt I still LOVE the old one!!

I hate remakes. Why does everyone have to do remakes? Can't they come up with original ideas? I don't think I'll be seeing the movie, especially after seeing the trailer.

Exactly what I was thinking, I am tired remakes riding the coat tails of great movies.

Johnny Depp, or Gene Wilder. Now that is an easy choice, I'll take Wilder any day.

OMFG Burton ripped off the movie?! GAH!

Read the god damned book! It was like WAY different then the movie with Wilder! He could have a whole new freakin movie but NOOOOO exactly like the movie of prior only with any luck the only improvement I can think of would be to lose the "Cheer up Charlie" song.

The simple answer is "NO". Unfortunately, I have noticed a complete lack of creativity when it comes to movies lately. I don't know if its because Hollywood is running out of ideas, or because it's just lazy. I remember going with Rev to see Spiderman 2...we were there pretty early, so we were just sitting in the lobby, and I got to noticing the posters for all the movies that were either there or coming soon. And you know what? Out of, say, 15 movies, 2 were original ideas. TWO! They were The Village and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Everything else was a movie derived from something else. I realized that it was a sad, sad day...

Anyway, on to Willy Wonka...

Unfortunately I must be the voice of dissent. While I adore the old film, I'm really excited about this one, especially after seeing that trailer. I love Johnny Depp, I love Tim Burton, and I love dark movies, so I'm hoping that this one isn't as light and airy as the original. The sets look beautiful, and everything looks to be visually stunning. I really think that this is going to surprise everyone...and Johnny Depp is just perfect. The only other guy that I think could have pulled this off, and I'm sorry to have to say it, is Jim Carey. But I won't get into it...

Actually, the Village is...well, I'm not sure BASED but the idea for The Village was the same as in a book i read a few years ago called "Running Out Of Time"

If anyone has read that book, they'll see how similar the two are. So unfortunately, Ming, looks like you only really saw 1 original idea o.0

And ...wow that trailer makes this new Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory look really creepy...>_< and why doesn't anyone ever make a "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator"?!?!? hehe i'd like to see those worm aliens that change Very Happy
