Nintendo's president says the console will represent a "paradigm shift."
By Matt Casamassina
January 13, 2005 - In an interview with the Kyoto Shimbun today, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata said that the successor to GameCube, codenamed Revolution, would bring about a "paradigm shift."
Iwata explained that, just as Nintendo did with its recently released DS portable, it wants to create something unique with the new home platform. He indicated once more that Revolution could be a machine targeted specifically at the mainstream audience, saying that if something looks too complicated it could alienate players.
Last May, Nintendo announced that work was well underway on Revolution and that it would be unveiled in some form at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005. Very few specifics about the console have been released since, except for a few vague comments by Nintendo executives that it might not use a traditional controller and that it will be able to hook up to a computer monitor as well as a television.
Iwata also told the newspaper that with Revolution Nintendo wanted to create games that would move the industry forward. |
Interesting. I wonder what they mean by the whole controller bit :O |

Wasn't that how the dreamcast was, in its prototype form? And the very reason why Sega didn't adopt such a technology was that the majority of the testers became alienated? |

That wouldn't make any sense since Nintendo thinks that gamer don't want to play online games.
I think they might go for something more interactive. Mayhaps something like DS wireless support or something. Maybe not use it as the Main Controller, but something similar so you could use it for some games. |

Well see, but they are trying to say they "aren't in compitition" with the rest.
IE, they are losing and are doing everything to get back in.
It's a shame too... they have a good system in the cube. |

Personally i think if they go with a semi standard controller like the PS2 and XBox have then they could do fine. Their hardware is great except for the controller on the Cube. They almost have to make a more PS2/XBox controller so companies will develope across all systems. Nintendo does have alot of great exclusives, but they also need to come up with some new stuff instead of sticking known characters into different areas. They got game play down, they just need to market a little better and broaden their expectations. |

And it was actually fun to play with, once you got that silly configuration of little boxes set up just right around your TV. I owned two of them, but eventually cut off the cords so that I could just play with them, kinda like I did with teh original Light Gun for the NES |
