THE PULSE: What other projects are you working on?
KINNAIRD: I've been tapped by the newly formed Butterfeild studios to do character designs and art chores on the first issue of SMURFS:HARDCORE.
When the studio won the comic license, the original copyright holders wanted this version of Smurfs to be "distinctly different" than the original. The Butterfeild decided to look to what was popular nowadays in the industry and go with a more hard edged "manga" look, which is where I come in I suppose. Since the Smurfs original audience is now in there twenties, more mature themed elements will have a tone in the stories like drugs, unprotected sex and alcoholism. With such a diverse cast of characters we're also going to be able to tap into a lot of different genres as well. Clockwork Smurf is going to be a mecha, Hefty Smurf is going to be a Special Forces type, wielding all sorts of heavy weaponry, and Smurfette is going to be a Sailor Moon like magical girl. Brainy Smurf is going to be the one that creates all sorts of high tech weapons and devices like time machines, that get our heroes in and out of trouble. The Smurfs arch nemesis Gargamel is now a nano technologically advanced cyborg who is trying to destroy the Smurfs for causing his "accident". There will also be a host of new Smurfs that will be a big surprise. One of the big main things about this new version is that the characters will be drawn more "anatomically correct". It seems very surreal to be working on such a different take of one of my childhood favorites, but I think this is the same way people initially reacted to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and look at what a hit that turned out to be.

Now thats quality, but i like the april fools joke where burger king made the left handed whopper, a whopper that had all the condiments turned 180 degrees, in order to make it correct for people with left hands to eat the burger. The funny thing, is that over 1 million people fell for it 
anywho...thats it for me...or is it...MUAH HAHAHAHA |
